Any reports on Wild Rice Lake? Friday I'm planning on taking off the entire day and fishing it. I'll be going after crappies and eyes, but I'm sure a few pike will be caught along the way.

I'm bringing my new strikemaster and 2 gallons of gas so hopefully I can find some decent action around there!

Been a very slow season on. Rice water is very low this year making for tough fishing, even for the pike

I took the opportunity this year to spend opener on Rice Lake ice fishing. Still a good 16 inches of ice. Sat out there from 6 until just after 9 a.m. Couldn't take any more of the wind. Didn't get a single bite :-(

I was confused at first about the info that was being stated about Wild Rice lake. Things became much clearer once I took a look at the dates of each post. I have no plans of setting foot on any ice covered lake this time of year, wind or not!!

The Minnesota soft water opener of 2013 will be remembered and talked about for a few years to come one would have to think...

I figured since I was still ice fishing, I would just append to the last thread about Rice. I'm thinking of going out tomorrow if the wind dies down. Any recommendations as to what part of the lake to go to? North? South? East? West?

Hello seymore,

Welcome to HotSpotOutdoors!! I'm glad you were able to get out and back off the ice safely. Not to often you will be able to say you did that on the 11th of May.

I had a buddy go through the ice a little over a week ago. Not in Duluth but still the northern half of the state. So sorry my only recommendation would be to stay off of the ice. Hopefully things will open up in short order and we can enjoy the lake from the safety of our boats!!

You got off the ice once today I wouldn't push your luck again.

When a lake goes out it doesn't melt down to nothing.

16" of ice will fall apart and be ice cubes in an instant.
