I realize I am still a novice ice fisherman, but I can't imagine how this could possibly be safe. Lake Kohlmeier in Owatonna, literally on an ice bridge in between two patches of open water from the bubblers. His portable was off to the right, and also inside the line of signs warning of thin ice. full-30401-28545-2013_01_0613.55.16.jpg

No fish is worth that.

Circle Lake in Lonsdale has an aerator as well. I was really quite surprised when I went there a few years ago to find a solid 8" right up next to the open water.

when i lived in ND i would fish Devils Lake a lot. in the early spring the ice would melt under all the bridges first and some people would bring their summer poles and stand right on the endge of the ice and cast into the open water or even sit on buckets on the edge and jig...... i love fishing but not anywhere near as much as some people i guess!

Whats more of a death wish, standing next to open water or driving 40 mph across a lake with 11" of ice. I wonder if people ever think about what they do.

I agree Ken, I saw people driving faster than I thought they should on 11 inches of ice this weekend. I won't even drive my truck on that little as there could always be 9 inches or a tad more in another spot close by.

Or, maybe worse, 2-3 full sized trucks parked within 40ft of each other by numerous full sized wheel houses.

Maybe I am just to careful.

I have verified personally that 4 inches of early ice will support 3 adults, and fishing gear in a 85 Chevette.

I have also personally verified my F150 pulling a big resort ice house on skids can be done when it is 50 degrees outside, with 3 inches of water on the lake, ontop of 10 inches of early ice.

I am not telling anyone to do this, and I didnt plan on neither situation, and wouldnt purposely ever do it again. But I was just saying, early ice is fairly strong, but dont use my stupidity as a strength factor. But I would never drive faster then 15mph on any lakes anyhow.

Just let darwin do his magic.

I agree with ya Thulie, that looks EXTREMELY dangerous.Putting rescue workers in harms way.If i knew him and his intentions, i would send him to my freezer to fish.

I can't tell from the picture. Does he have arm floaties on for safety?

Sorry, the zoomed picture does kind of look like Bigfoot.

No life jacket or floaties.
