Just thought all should know the local meatheads are breaking into shacks on Chisago and S. Lindstrom already, so leave nothing out there... They are trashing them as well, myself and about eight other surrounding perminants were hit last night mad.

Why people gotta spoil the fun is beyond me. One day I'll be out there waiting in the dark whistle

Sorry to here about that. I have had it happen to me twice in the last 12 years. Hopefully this doesn't make it three times. I have my house on Chisago right now. I will be checking on it tomorrow when i head out after work. What area are you in?

We caught some little [PoorWordUsage] out on Fawn Lake doing that two nights ago. My bro had mentioned to me that he saw some kids walking really close to the houses and trying to look through the windows when he was out there fishing. A couple of home owners were notified and asked to just keep an eye open. Sure enough about 2200 I get a phone call saying that the kids were in one of the houses on the lake. we called Chisago county sheriff and then beat feet to get down there and caught the little suckers.Held them there until two deputies showed up and took them into custody. Like you said why do they have to act like that

That's great! Good work.

Exactly why I do not own a permanent house anymore.

At least not a very nice one.

I would not suggest sitting in a dark fish house, as someone suggested.

My self as well as another that I know of had their perms run over in the night.

This was NOT by accident. They wrapped a chain or rope around mine and pulled it apart. (Forest Lake)

Years later someone just flat out ran over and through my buddies house.

His happened to be an expensive and well built unit.

There was nothing inside either house.

My bud got a call the next morning from the Sheriff informing him he had better pick up the debris of his former fish house, or face a fine for littering. (Rush lake)

He had no idea his house had been hit.

Not sure I would turn the perps over to the law as I would much rather deliver a well deserved beat down.

Nice! Good job, would be nice if more stories turned out this way.

What area are you in?

...In the channel for now, I'll be the one in the shack with no lights on waiting quietly smirk

My house was fine. I have nothing of value in it. I just wanted to make sure it didn't get messed up.

Sons brand new propane bottle got stolen on Forest.

I bet I know the little brats that did it. Used to be a senior photographer for that area, I know a lot of the families and their trouble makers. The things I know that they don't think I do. I'll be sure to keep an ear out if I hear anything. I'm sick of it. Makes me not want to put my permanant out this year. They just ruin the fun.

Hello

Hounds an I were sitting in my turck in narrows for half hour bout 3:30 pm. People watching an talking to a few people seen my name on truck an want to pet hounds or just talk.

Seen a house tan in color right out from ramp mid channel looked like door busted in. Way sad an made me mad inside. Whats the point...just mean ^%$##@! To bad Sheriff can't patrol the lakes...cost to much maybe ....but should be some way to cut this dump out.

Years ago when on green you colud only access the lake thru Hackels resort or lil green an go thru channel. Not to many troubles with Perms then. But when Hackels split an launch was put in where their resort was all kinds of troubles with perms then. Our 8x8 would get hit three times a winter an we never kept a thing in it so the would wiz or dump in holes or leave beer bottle top in hole to mess with augers.

Kid stuff....weak an silly. Anyway!

We did not have to much luck ever catching anyone but few did get busted from shore linving folks that had homes an kept eye out...

Suks to see this.

Up Vermilion houses seldom to never ever get touched.

Different world.

Stinky people ruin the fun.

I today in the short period of time also notice with no snow on ice trucks an cars on opisite side driving 40 MPH plus inbetween lakes. That is really not good if they understood what actually happens under the ice in shallow water.

Should maybe be a 10 MPH speed limit...Com on Man....where ya gotta go in a hurry unless yer bleeding to death.

Enjoyed hangin out a meeting a few nice people an their kids.

Hounds all smiles also.

Maybe this week I hit the ice for some fun but stay clear of the people all in a hurry an such.

If ya see us on the lake in my big black chey..come on over an hang....always good to meet new people an have some laughs.

Be safe.

Tommy,

That shack with the door smashed in was two shacks to the east of mine. The #$!$#$# that broke into my shack started with mine and worked their way down the channel to the east, three of them in street shoes going off the footprints. Some of these shack owners are still unaware of the damage to their shacks it seems. I would put a trail cam in mine if I didn't think it would get stolen as well, And I'm pretty sure a paint bomb would be illeagal...

I hate fishing in the middle of large groups of shacks, but it seems that is the best solution to this issue. Make freinds with your neighbors and watch eachothers backs when houses are not occupied.

I know that fish house burglery is not a major crime as far as the criminal system is concerned, but these theives should be aware of the untold vengence a fisherman could administer in the middle of the night......

Posted

I think the trail cam is a good idea but not much would come from the photographs. We could start a wall of shame for people to watch out for but the police wouldnt do much with a few pictures... Then there would be missing trail cams too. I dont own a permanent house but i always keep an eye out for suspicious activities. I feel it is my duty to watch out for fellow sportsman as i know they return the favor. This kind of activity angers me and i even feel uneasy about leaving my truck at landings where i cant see it from the lake. I dont keep valuables in it but they dont know that and a smashed window would really ruin a good day on the lake...

Posted

It would be a big wall of shame.

This stuff has been going on for years. I had 2 shacks ruined up there; one badly vandalized, the other torched. My buddies also had a very nice mille lacs style house burned. That was about 15 yrs ago.

Never again.

Posted

I dont own a perm specifically for this reason, but my question is this, most lakes are pretty well built up around with houses, you would think one of those people would see it goin on, do they just not care since its not their stuff getting ripped off(modern american condition from what ive seen) or are these theives really that sneaky? Ild like to think i would stop someone until cops got there but then again.... But really whats wrong with defending innocent peoples property. I think if you see punks messing around with houses, go stop em.

Its the same deal though with alot of metro area shore fishing spots too. Your car is really aa sitting target.

Why people do this is just beyond me. I am in the same boat as davidbigreelz here...

Ok the ice was 15-16 inches and less than 2 inches of snow. It’s was -15 this morning and the weekend looks to be cold again. The fish were there but not biting with change in weather.

I guess the vikings are a lot like fishing.  Very entertaining but frustrating at times. I've probably been cheering the vikings for 50 plus years  that i can remember and once again it's all about (there's always next year).

I remember Jeno's boxed pizza years ago.  Mom made it every Saturday night while dad and I watched All Star Wrestling.

On the South Shore... Ice fishing is going great on the south shore of Lake of the Woods, with resorts and outfitters reporting thickening ice conditions with two feet of ice in some areas.  Many ice roads are now open to 1 ton vehicles pulling a wheelhouse.  Every road has different weight limits, check with each resort for details before traveling up and out on the ice.      Some good fishing this past week.  As a rule, fishing activity is happening in 28 - 32 feet of water.  Resorts do just about everything they can to get customers on fish and this past week, some resorts made some long runs, resetting fish houses in new areas miles off shore.  Most are reporting good fishing as a rule.     It is common to sort through some small walleyes and saugers to get your keepers on LOW.  Naturally, some big fish are showing up, especially in deeper water.  In addition, this has been a very good year for jumbo perch with good numbers being caught.  Other fish in the mix are eelpout (burbot), pike, tullibees and an occasional sturgeon.      Anglers are using the one-two punch of jigging in one hole and deadsticking the second hole. In the jigging hole, a jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head or tail in gold / pink, gold / glow red, glow white / pink, or Wonder Bread have worked well.     Especially in the deeper water, some anglers are finding success on rippin raps or using jigging spoons with a rattle as well.     On the deadstick, a small jig with a live minnow hooked behind the dorsal fin set 6 inches - a foot off of the bottom is working well.  One day the jigging line catches most of the fish, the other day a deadstick is hot.     Electronics are very helpful to see suspended fish, know when fish are coming through and adjust your presentation to the mood of each fish.  Most resorts, outfitters and bait shops in the area rent electronics by the day.   On the Rainy River... The Rainy River is still producing some nice walleyes and saugers, primarily in the mornings and evenings.  A jig and minnow working well.   Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing continues to be good for those targeting them.  An oversized hole, or three holes drilled together, with nightcrawlers or frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig fished on the bottom are what anglers are using.     Ice conditions on the river can vary significantly due to the current. To stay safe and maximize success, always work with a local resort or outfitter familiar with river conditions.    Up at the NW Angle... Ice fishing continues to be very good up at the Northwest Angle. Resorts have fish houses set up on various pieces of structure as well as adjacent to structure in deep mud.  A consistent mix of walleyes, saugers, jumbo perch, pike and tullibees in the mix.     Shallow structure is best right away in the morning and as the sun starts going down in the late afternoon.  Mud is more of a slower bite but all day.   The ice road from Jerry's on the mainland (Angle Inlet, MN) to island resorts (as of this past week) was open to 1 ton vehicles.  Guests drive right to their island resort after picking up a road pass at Jerry's or Point North Services.  Venmo is also available at all resorts.  Work through your resort for specifics.   Ice fishing is in full swing across Lake of the Woods and there are openings for lodging, fish house rentals, sleeper fish house rentals and meal plans across the area.  Ice fishing is extended on LOW with fish houses allowed on the ice through March 31st, walleye / sauger season open through April 14th and a pike season that never closes.

From your fingertips to God's ears...  Finally got some snow!   Several inches of new snow fell before and during the weekend.  Sunday eve when we left, the high winds had already begun to create some drifting on the lake.  It was fun riding for sure.  Lots of folks on the lake this past weekend too.  We fueled up the sleds at Shamrock and saw as many people fishing in that area as I've ever seen in the Winter on Lake Vermilion.     Our weekend results were decent.  Jeff and I and a buddy caught probably 50 walleyes between the three of us, mostly fishing a jig/plastics with our three biggest being 24", 25", and 25.5".  We also got one large pike of unknown length.  During the midday on Sunday, we targeted whitefish and Jeff managed one big one.  We released all of our fish, except for three small walleyes that our buddy wanted to bring home for a meal.  Definitely a fun weekend on Lake V!

The Vikings are the Vikings so it's nothing new.  It is kind of sad that Darnold's off season stock is now going to drop like a rock after these last two games. It kind of shows he's not a big game guy.  🤔

I'm blaming leech... his food selection has been lacking game days recently  🤣
