Well for the past week I have been in this slump of not marking fish. I have probably been to 9 different lakes this week with no luck. Every spot that I have always marked fish on this time of the year was a bust and a bit depressing. I finally went out the a lake that for some reason have been neglecting for a long time and got back in the zone again. I stayed away from the crowd and ventured out a couple hundred yards and fished 12 feet. Hot jigs today were the lindy toad in green and black and pink and yellow tipped with maggots. The crappies were on fire as well as the blue gill all though the big gills were finicky but with a little finesse they would go. I even caught my first white crappie. Not to big but pretty cool to finally see one up close. I payed more attention to the suspended fish then the bottom huggers. All but a few of my big gills were 3 feet off bottom as well as the crappie. I will be back at it again tomorrow then time to take a breather for a couple days. Good Luck to everyone this weekend and hope to see you out there!!

Nice work Mike. I was surprised to find some 8" gills suspended with crappies in 40' of water a couple weeks ago! Never would have thought they'd be 10' off bottom right with the crappies:)

Fishing deep water for gills are one of my favorite things to do. I catch many big gills in the basins on the lakes with the crappies. its a hole drilling experience as they tend to move alot but you will find big gills that way smile

Good to hear you got into some, Mike. Nothing more satisfying than catching some after a slump. smile

Last day of myself hunting before I help my friend with new clients. Back on the bigger marsh, mainly teal but 5 fulvous whistling ducks. A medium size duck but they fly and decoy like Canada geese, big circles and glide in. They are noisey birds

Kettle, sounds like an awesome trip. Never see drake bluewings in MN during the season. For the bridge my pucker factor would've been 11, and that's walking across both ways!!

I did the looper steelhead thing in front of the French River once.  It was fun. I got one looper but the sight fishing aspect of it was the most fun.   We saw a couple guys limit on steelhead up close to shore and learned the black fly was the way to catch ‘em.  We didn’t have any.   My first 40+ hour day that I can remember.  Went to work Friday morning, Van Halen concert Friday night, too jacked up on the way home to call it a day so we loaded up for the North Shore.  Fished all day, drove home Saturday night.     Those crazy kids…   Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands have always been a want but an undone deed.  The wander spirit has faded from my old traveling buds.  They like to stick to what they know now.

About 20" of ice in Black Bay., although that's just based on how far my auger went before breaking through.
