2012 Trail Cam Thread

It is definately 100% a shadow of that tree to the right side of the fawn. The Doe is still in the shadow as the light source is coming from the upper right of the picture. It would be cool to see a pie or an albino. This, however is a simple case of shadows playing tricks on the imagination. Turn that light OFF and then you'll see your images on your camera as they should appear.

Walleynutz, I think that buck scores a bit better than 140. I think he has nice main beam length, decent height, decent spread, and it is a 10 point main frame with some junk / addtional split brow on the right. Seems to have good mass at the bases and it also seems to be a big bodied mature 3.5 / 4.5 year old. Just curious... is it a local / corn fed deer or is it from somewhere out of our area?

My cameras are a ways up north near Chippewa Nat. forest and haven't seen my results since putting them out Sept 1st. I'm itching to drive up... but its a 4 hour drive and a 1,000 plus yard walk up and down ravines and over / around about 10 fallen trees... I think I'll wait a couple more weeks. lol. Hope they are still out there.

Here are the two biggest I have on camera from this summer. It's a 4 hour drive to where we hunt, and a 3 1/2 hour hike in and back to get them, so we set them out early in the summer and pick them up in the fall. Unfortunatly my camera got torn down by a bear 3 days after I put it up, so I only had a picture of one doe. Dad's camera made it a month before getting torn down and he had 7 bucks on there. The 12 is a decent deer, but the 10 is what I have my sights set on! The body looks huge! I bet it's in the same ballpark as my 240# dressed buck from last year!

Hunting the big woods, I don't really expect to see either of these during the season, but you never know. It's fun knowing they are out there!!

Wow those are big-bodied deer! Have you tried the lockboxes that are for security/bear-proofing? Not to expensive and a nice safeguard

I do the same nowiser, drop mine off in mid summer and picking them up this weekend. 50/50 chance the bears messed with them. That last one is a brute!

Can someone point me to a reliable, clear picture taking, fairly in-expensive trail cam. I bought the Primos Blackout cr @ Wally World and that thing takes horrible night pictures. Thanks!

You know, I wish I could, they are such a crapshoot. Two guys might buy the same camera, and one might work great, the other might be a pile of garbage. I was very happy with Moultrie's until this year, my flash quite working. I was never impressed with the picture quality(grainy) but they were inexpensive and reliable. I think this is only the 3rd year out for my Moultrie so I am not that impressed anymore. My biggest thing would be to do some research, find one with good battery life and take the plunge. I will however, tell you to stay away from the wildviews, I have had multiple wildview cameras and none of them are still in the woods.

I love my Moultrie M-80. All IR cams will take somwhat blurry pics if the animals are moving at night. The night pics from the M-80 are nice and bright though. I have both the M-80 and M-100, love them both.

Have 2 moultries, lucked out with 1. The 1 takes 1 set of batteries for the year and roughly 3,000 pictures more or less talking Sept.1st-April 1st with no phantom pics. My other I'm on my 2nd set of batteries already and it's not October, man. It took about a thousand on that set. Either way keep the pics coming, my favorite is this thread.

too bad you couldn't get a license plate number! Its amazing what turns up on trail cameras... I have random people walking around on private property all the time. Amazing how much trespassing happens without our knowledge

This was taken in a neighbors woods on a river a couple miles south of me. The dnr believes it is the same elk that was hit and killed by Zumbrota.

I emailed the pics to the land owner. He said it was one of his relatives who had some grandkids down for the week. They were doing some "nature" watching and he was filming them playing in my deer stand.

What do you do.

What really gets me boiling is the two German shephards that went through two days later within a minute of a couple deer.

Couple T-wolves with tracking collars. I happen to have a tag and this is their fourth time through this area. You never know.

Good luck! My buddy has a tag too. Let us know if you need help picking off the other one! smirk

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.
