All valid and fine points, however I still maintain that if they cannot do the job, and part of the job is dealing with all kinds of people, maybe they should find a new way of making a living.

Like most of us my interactions with the CO's has been overwhelmingly positive but that does not mean I like it when they act like bullies and try to use intimidation to do their job.

As someone pointed out earlier "...to Protect and Serve..." is part of their job.

Really not worth much more discussion as it is a simple difference of opinion.

I have to say I've had nothing but fantastic experiences from every inspector or CO I've ran into this summer. I've even had one guy remember me and start out with, 'Hey you're back!' Some have been more straight forward with the business approach, but most have been very nice and helpful. I even had one guy walk over to inspect my boat as I was pulling it out and as I was barely stopped was crawling under my boat pulling weeds and helping. I was shocked.

can you imagine what it would be like responding to people breaking the limit rules, trespassing and poaching on a regular basis-only to get lame excuses about not knowing or understanding all the time?

Not that I think anyone in a role of authority should have a bad attitude-just saying there might be a reason for it from time to time.

I, personally, have been checked for licenses, limits, whatever a bunch of times. Only had a couple bad experiences. Doesn't mean they're all bad-and I don't think anyone's implying that. There are the few individuals that abuse their position of power, though. Kind of like cops. Those are the ones that need another line of work. Probably picked on in school or something and now they have a badge?

Ask any cop, though..."Protect and serve" is not their responsibility-even though it states it on some of their cars. The only ones they protect are themselves, and their job is to respond to crimes once they've been committed.

Quit the whining and follow the law. They are not the happy police. Doing their job, and an important one at that. Not personally calling anyone out but you are all acting like it's the end of the world. Give them what they ask for so they can move on to more potential poachers and law violators. If your feelings are that fragile, drop the fishing and take up a hobby that keeps you indoors and isolated.

As yet I have not complained about or stated or implied I did not follow the law. I simply object to public servants acting like we live in a police state and using intimidation in their interaction with the law abiding public.

If the CO/LEO is dealing with someone who lies, obfuscates, cops an attitude then they have the right (and possibly obligation) to respond in kind. If they come to me with a hard guy attitude when they are simply doing a license or safety check and have no reason to believe I have violated the law then the dam well better treat me with respect and courtesy. If they cannot do that simple thing then they need to find a new line of work.

I am a teacher and if I projected the attitude of others I had dealt with and acted like CO/LEO's often do i would be looking for a job sooner rather than later. I don't think it is too much to expect, all it is is a matter of common courtesy.

Its pretty easy to treat your "customers" terribly when they are captive.. Just like any government job, its guaranteed that they get paid no matter how they treat us, we get taxed either way! Just like the cop letting his car run 24 hours a day, he isnt paying for the gas. Try treating the people you make a living off like that in the private sector.. not going to last long. Pretty sad that they take advantage of the situation at times. Im with the guys that have had both bad and good experiences with DNR but I do agree when they come off poorly it can be frustrating!
