So, I posted on one thread and read a few others.... gloom and doom.

Please take my advice, if you have plans on coming up for opener, DO NOT even CONSIDER cancelling.

Opening week is going to be the absolute best fishing opener we have possibly ever had.

The numbers of fish are very strong, Pike Bay will be open to fishing, and a phenomenal time will be had by all, mark my word.

I just feel its important to anyone who is questioning opener to feel at ease that you don't have to change your plans. ( If opener were tomorrow you may have to trailer your boat 15 miles? )

Capt. Casey

You better be right Casey, or the villagers will be at your door step with torches and hangman nooses!! gringringringrin

Well, so far there are no lies in that statement, until we see how fishing is opening week.. I have to say I was very optimistic about a complete lake ice out until about two days ago, we were making great progress and everything sort of stalled for about 4 days last week. I truely believe it could have gone either way. Somewhere, in some end of the road town, a guy in a bait shop named Jim is smiling that he will probably be right. I just personally think it's sick to be so hopeful for a frozen opener, especially givin our miserable winter!

There will still be a lot of open water to fish opener, a lot can mean many different things but if you want me to get specific please wait to ask me until Friday night. If you come up you may have to trailer your boat to fish, you might be good where you are at. 50s and rain in the forecast very day this week. It was snowing this morning. Is it Saturday yet!!!!!!!!!

Checked out HooDoo and McKinley again today. Not good for Big Bay area! cry

There is still a good sized chunk of thin ice floating off of HooDoo Point yet also. I still think that Pike Bay will be clear by opener though.

Don't give up hope yet Casey. Greenwood is pretty well open now and there is a big open slot from Fectos Point out towards Blackduck. ONce we get a hint of wind, there will be some dramatic changes. I am sticking with Thursday for us. Might even happen sooner.

Casey,

No one is hopeful for a frozen opener, but a person must be realistic and not have false hope.

This winter was the worst I've had in 30 years of business, and keep in mind that I also took it in the shorts last opener.

With that said, and I'll talk reeeeealll slow since I'm talking to a Tower guy, "I am not hoping for a frozen opener, but it is what it is!!" wink

Dang Kids!! mad

Casey, I see you have been to Arkansas. I live in Arkansas and my group and I will be fishing Vermilion the first week of June. This will be our third trip to Vermilion and we are looking forward to it.

We've been coming "up north" for the past twenty years now - we love to chase your smallmouth! Lots of fishing here, no doubt, but the smallie fishing up there is so much better than we have - and it gives us an excuse to be gone for a week!

I made it out opener and what a beautiful day, caught a few fish including a 25. On the way to work last night I was involved in a two car accident and I am sitting in the hospital dreaming I was out fishing. I can see how much our friends from out of the area appreciate coming here to see the information everyone has shared. Any ways, don't know exactly when I'll be back in action but it's definately not going to be tomorrow.

What the ??? Hope you're ok Casey! Mille Lacs was horribly slow. 7 fish for two guys and we did better than many. Hope you get out of there soon. I heard the food isn't nearly as good as fresh walleye!

No need to state the obvious. On a lighter note, if you need someone to check out all your secret spring spots, send me the GPS coordinates and I'll be happy to help out grin

Speedy Recovery to you. Looks like things could of/should of been a whole lot worse. Let us know if we can do anything to help, other than the fishing spots since Mark has that covered.
