I concur, I know they want to teach patience and plate discipline but the defensive swings I've seen so far from many of the guys is no wonder we can just dribble it to an infielder, you must attack the ball, but hit strikes, again you must attack every pitch, but let it go at strikes. Joe's old philosophy isn't working, take a strike, well I was taught you're a .400 hitter on strike 1, .300 on strike 2, and a .200 hitter on the 3rd strike. He was the master at taking a strike and defied the odds some, it's time to realize I'm in my prime and it's time to jump that 1st pitch that's in the soup can. Here's what's really scary to me thus far..... In our 3rd at bat against the same pitcher we look like we haven't seen any pitches yet, you must make that starter pay the 3rd time around and without much power, how are we going to bunch 3-4-5 hits together with averages like we got. 3rd time around it should be a tough inning or 2 on any starter at the big league level. Look at the rest of April and I hope we're not 0 and ?

I like the whoever scouted Nishi comment should be fired, he is likely happier at the triple AAA level where he can puff his smokes. I hope the same guy isn't scouting for us anymore, he's easily the most deer in the headlights look to a pro ball player I've ever seen. So we failed there, I just hate the defensive swings many are taking, I want to see I'm going to drive this daing ball into the gap cut. Another year of the boys taking on the men. Bet Prince and Miguel are grinnin, 20 games against that staff and bullpen, Yes ! Go check the April schedule. MB

You naysayers will all jump on the wagon when the Twins win a few more games. I am guessing 91 wins.

91, that's funny. laugh

It looked like Carrol worked on his swing. It wasn't as choppy last night and look what happened. Then he misses the throw from center field. Wth? I think the cold had a lot to do with the ball not bouncing as expected but still.

It was nice to see them put up some numbers for a change.

Lets not all pat the boys on the back just yet wink The Angels had a bad night, Starting pitching wasn't what it should have been. Good old Hunter helped the twinks when he went down flat on his face alowing a couple runs to score.

True enough, I was trying to check cbs power ranking and 30th isn't so bad ? I had no clue who the 3 middle relievers were ? Glad T Hunt kissed the wall, we need some karma. Do you guys sense we don't have that true home field adv. not that every stadium has that but compared to the dome ?

NO I don't ....I thought we put that baby to rest the 1st year we played at Target field and had the best home record in the league. It's more about the players and not traveling then it was about the old Dome field advantage MYTH that everybody was brain-washed into thinking we had.

158 - 4 after last night grin or more like their 1 - 4 pace to finish with only 32 for the year?

I predict more injuries and the run for a hun will be completed with minimum of 2 weeks left in September. 135 and a major league record in play depending how signifigant the injuries.

Guess no one told Willingham that Target field is hard to hit the ball out of....

maybe its NOT the field.....hmmmmmmm

I'd classify losing Blackie as a big loss. Hope it's a minor ailment but Twins track record with pitching injuries, or injuries in general for that matter, would leave one to bet the other way.

First it was the deep center field,

then it was the trees in center field,

then it was, who knows what.

It's all excuses. The Twins play small ball. It's the "Twins way".

I think that there would be many more home runs hit at Target field if any other team called it home because most other teams don't play the "Twins way".

Example, second game in the new ballpark one of the smaller players in the game had no problem sending a ball out of park, Pedroia. The Twins problem is skill level and coaching, not the park.

Agreed. It's only the second time through the rotation but he was their best starter on the first rotation, maybe the second as well.

Hopefully it is nothing serious.

LEN3 tweets that mri shows no serious damage. Speculation that he may make his next scheduled start. Not sure what to read into the no serious damage part. Fails to mention who evaluated the mri also. Training staff hasn't earned high marks over the years.

I don't think the trainers would have anything to do with reading the MRI, that would probably be done by a doctor, a specialist.

I was just doing some quick math and it looks like I gave the Twins a little too much credit when I said they would finish 60-102. At the rate they are going now, they are on pace to win a whopping 43 games this year. I dont think it can stay this bad all year, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and go with 50-112. This team is really a disgrace.

And to all the guys saying that Gardy needs to go...I dont think a guy like Tony LaRussa or Joe Torre could win with these clowns!!!

I think the whole upper management needs to be shown the door for thinking they could use these guys and put a winner on the field.

I hope everyone realizes that when I predicted 85 wins I meant in the next 2 seasons however it may take part of a third to reach that number.

Opener and the week after were good.  Not the numbers we normally get but better quality in the East End.  Not surprised on the weights for the Auto City a.  Usually for us we only catch a few slot fish but we averaged 3 a day for 10 days.  2 overs, biggest 27 inches.     Our best luck was 12-16 feet for quality.  When we went deeper we caught more but smaller.  Bass were really starting to heat up.  For me little earlier than normal.  Found some nice Bluegills the day we went after some panfish.  Dock fishing was as many as we wanted per usual.

We will be up on June 8th for the week. It will be our 13th year in a row staying on the lake.  I hope the walleye are hitting the bobbers by the time that we get there.

Those are some fine specimens. Great job

I'm quite shocked to hear that a walleye tournament is still doing a live weigh in.  Virtually every event these days around here is doing a catch, photo, and release format.   Regardless, nice work.  Congrats.

On the south end...   A great week of fishing with walleyes and saugers caught in good numbers.   The go-to presentation, again, was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 17 - 21' of water.  Various schools of walleyes and saugers across the south shore.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.   Some big pike and jumbo perch being caught by walleye anglers. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers normally head to the lake.  12 - 15' of water is holding some nice fish.   Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes being caught along with a mixed bag.  12 - 25 feet of water.  Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water were holding good fish this week.    The go-to presentation was a jig and minnow as on the south shore.  A mixed bag as is common around the Angle.

Nice work!   Here's two words you hardly ever hear anyone say anymore.  "grateful and humbled"

RLG, thanks for the shout-out!     Jeff and I are still trying to wrap our heads around what happened this past weekend.  We are humbled and full of gratitude  for having won 'The Classic' for a second time.     We practiced through all the rain on Thurs and the wind on Friday and found six different spots holding big fish.  Fishing was good on both days with several 'overs' in our catch...but would it hold up for another day?   We didn't know.     On tourney day, we made a long run to our first spot where I lucked out on a 26.5"er on my second cast.  Jeff followed up with a thick 27" er a few minutes later, which turned out to be the big fish for the event at 7.26lbs.  We finished out our limit and weighed-in at 10:30 am for the welfare of the fish in our livewell.    There were some big weights in this event which would have won in most other years, but - for whatever reason - this was our day.  Everything just went our way.  Again, we are just super grateful and humbled by this success.  We also want to congratulate all the other anglers who did well and give a big 'thank you' to the tournament organizers who put on such a great event!

I had a good start to the season on opener. Fishing was slow but consistent. I had four eaters in the box by lunch dragging perch raps. Crappies were biting. I haven't been up since so don't know how things have changed since then, but I'm sure the walleye continue to migrate out into the main basins.

Let’s start this by congratulating Brianf and son for winning their second City Autoglass Walleye Classic last weekend. These guys know how to fish.  We just got to the lake for the season. Chores are almost done and I’m ready to fish.  red(new dog is more yellow)labguy

I tried starting a 2024 Lake Vermilion Fishing Report topic but it doesn't show up on this board.   Maybe somebody else knows how to do it?
