Tips to Catch Eelpout

I was up ly for eelpout festival had a great time!! We set up the wheelhouse on a 36ft hump in walker bay and had 60ft of water on both sides of the hump, we were well away from bourbon street. I thought this would be a great location for eelpout but not a single one. All we could catch were walleyes (which isnt a bad thing). But I want to catch some eelpout and was wondering if someone could give me some tips on how to catch one Depths, Lure, Baits, humps or flats any info would be helpful.

I've done better shallow, 12-25 F.O.W. Don't over look shoreline points and structure near a steep break into deep water.

20-25 fow in the evening is usually great for pout. tie on a BIG glow jig and tip with a minnow, and pound the bottom with it.

this time of year I have done better in shallower water 12-25 ft. They actually spawn in late Jan so they are post spawn now and I think they do that in the shallower water.

The last few years I have gotten the bigger ones with a big slick jig (actually I found Blue fox's version before lindy made theirs) with a big minnow just pounding it off the bottom.

I rented a sleeper at Appledorn's a few years ago just to catch a pout. I got about 5 of them that weekend. Not much else, but I did catch the pout I wanted.

Big red glow buckshot spoon with a minnow head. They would keep hitting it until they got hooked.

Walker bay gets hit pretty hard with traffic during the pout fest. I would try off of morris point. They typaccally spawn in muck and need some current you have both very close to morris.

Another spot that you can try is off of stoney. Look for a steep break and be on top of the break where it flattens out.
