@Matt

What are your thoughts on this type of structure. Are there any holes in my thoughts?

Given the time of year, I would check out "B" then "A". My guess would be that bluegills are scouting potential breeding areas. But still staying close enough, if need be, to a deeper food source. Or they are in an area that is deep but still close to a shallow breeding ground. Im no expert or anything, just how I would look at that area.

This is probably the best thread I have stumbled upon. Letting the people fishing inturpret the map, and nodging them in a more informed direction of reading and inturpreting a lake map/structure. I feel like i should be paying for this kind of knowledge. Good stuff.

I am looking to learn how to read my Vex better. I have a FL-18 and I keep hearing about reading bottom content with it and finding the transition areas? I know that the harder the bottom the smaller the bottom red line and soft bottom has more of a red line. This can all be adjusted with adjusting the sensitivity so it is throwing me a curveball. Do I read the bottom line when the sensitivity is set so my jig looks the same at the bottom, or do I have to keep the sensitivity set the same and I am checking holes? I am describing finding the transition when the depths are changing on a piece of underwater structure. Any posts of Pics would be helpful as well.

Here are some excellent tips/articles that the Vexilar team has put together... Vexilar Tips and Articles - CLICK HERE

A lot of good info on there that might shed some light on finding hard bottom and transition areas.

Also check out their video page too... Vexilar Videos - CLICK HERE

Otherwise I will try and gather some screen shots and ask around to see what I can find...

Now that open water is finally officially here (although some lakes in Northern MN still have ice) I figured it was time to bring back this topic...

Here's a snap shop of a back bay leading into the main lake. A lot going on here and many seasonal options. Let's look at this from a seasonal perspective. You can talk walleye, panfish, pike... whatever you decide. How would specific spots be used for which species? What about weather? What about this year's weather playing a role in location for the below snap shot? Maybe you can relate to a lake near you when looking at this snap shot...

Anyone care to take a stab and offer up some ideas as to which spots could potentially hold fish and why?

Perhaps some evening trolling in about 4 to 8 feet for some Walleyes between C and D. Or look for the warmest water in A or B for some Crappies.

I could potentially see some bass staging on C, and moving into B as the water temps reach 60* and they start spawning.

      I don't know, this save the plant thing looks like a money maker, for someone! 🫤 Where do you think electric prices are going to go when they have the monopoly for everything that moves! 🙄

      Nice!   It would be great if they had some kind of brake, so you don't end up on your neighbors YouTube video going down the driveway! 😆

      Last month I went searching online for a trailer jack with pneumatic tires. Instead I found the video below showing a relatively quick and easy upgrade to your existing jack:     It's worked pretty well. I definitely had to mess around with finding the right combination of spacers, washers, and locknut pressure that wouldn't bind up the wheels. However, it is a pretty sweet setup and allows me much better control. We live at the end of a half-alley. My garage faces the end so when I need to hook my boat up to the truck, I have to pull it out into my driveway and then swivel it 180 degrees to face towards the street. The handle is what really makes the difference and now the trailer jack wheels don't slide on the asphalt. Has anyone else done this conversion?

      I've got a pile of crawlers ready to go - a nice side benefit of all the rain in the metro lately.   At the very least, I hope that the remaining trappers are making some better money off of the higher prices. I would think that it would be a great way for local kids to make some cash. I can see why it wouldn't make for a great way to make a living as an adult.

      Went out yesterday with the sunshine. I did find crappies in the shallows on a darker stained lake with Temps at 58 degrees. They had no interest in my baits

      That's part of it.  Several recent years of drought have definitely played a role.   There's other factors too.  MN does not allow importation of live bait from other states either.  That really affects the amount of golden shiners available, most of which are not trapped here.  In other words, demand exceeds supply.   Lots of bait trappers and dealers have simply hung it up in recent years.  Its hard work for not much money.  The two nearest me are both done as of last October.  They both told me its just not worth it anymore.  One of them had been there for 45 years.   My advice would be to learn how to effectively fish with artificial lures more often.  I've slowly weened myself off the use of live bait nowadays.
