Who should the Vikes draft?

I've been watching all of the drills in the various positions, listening to the (network expert) anlaysis , and, it seems that if all the judging criteria was working that there would not be many 2nd round and lower picks that always wind up being starters over earlier picks....some players are developing yet, others are there, still others get exposed in the pro arena....I rate judicious picking as important as player rankings.

Dude are you serious?? Lol. You need to do some homework. The dolphins went from 1-15 to 11-5, completing the biggest 1 year turnaround in NFL history just a couple years ago after drafting Jake Long. Any other homework you want me to do for you?

....and you quite obviously haven't paid attention to what people are thinking on Blackmon recently, but that's not a surprise after your last post.....

Forgive me if I forgot about the dolphins from a couple years ago.... Those same dolphins sure look good with Jake now, huh???

I don't even know where to start. It's laughable how many hoops you are jumping through to convince yourself that drafting a stud LT is bad

Here you go yiggin. Here's a statline. 134 receptions 1962 yards 22 tds in a 13 game college season, as a freshman. Crushes Blackmons line. Michael Crabtree. A bigger "can't miss" reciever than Blackmon. I guess stats don't tell the whole story eh? Most people know that.....

Back Pedal? Could that turn around have been because of Bill Parcels and a new coaching staff? That might have had a little more to do with it.... Besides that, it was pretty short lived... Boy those dolphins were pretty good the last couple years, werent they?

San Fransico also did it...huge turn-around for them after 2 1st round O-Lineman picked.

2 more stat lines 4 year career stats.....

178 rec 2927 yards 28 tds

195 rec 2907 yards 24 tds

The top 2 recievers in Georgia tech history. Top Calvin Johnson. Bottom Kelly Campbell.More Proof of how stats can be complete garbage.

Did i say drafting a stud LT is bad? Dont remember ever saying that.. NOT WITH THE 3rd OVERALL PICK

Do i need to write with the caps lock button mashed in?????? TOO HIGH OF A PICK FOR A TACKLE!!

Zepman- yes the 9ers did it too, but AGAIN, with a new coaching staff(this just in- the harbaugh bro's can coach) and a GREAT DEFENSE

Goblue has it right. This is laughable. It's a clinic on hoopjumping LOL. I'm done......It's going to he Kalil at 3. Just like the 2 mocks I just read, It's as big a no brainer for the vikings as taking Luck is for the colts.....

you are delusional if you think the 3rd overall pick is too high to take a LT

there's a reason they are frequently taken with the Top 5 picks in the draft. They are invaluable

Link to comment

They are invaluable huh? Thats why every playoff team has one, right? WRONG, they dont!

Every single playoff team from this season doesnt have a stud LT- what they have is a good o line that blocks well together. Not saying a good LT isnt important, but its not imperative that you have a stud at that position! Dont act like you all have me in a box i cant get out of.

Rattle off all the playoffs teams LT's once for me since your both so good at googling- How many of them are so called "studs"?

You must have forgotten already that this was talked about a couple days ago when it was brought to your attention that the same could be said for WR cores. And in particular....where they were drafted....or not drafted at all.....

Excuse me while I grab some tylenol, my head hurts from banging it against the wall.

Kareem Mckenzie, David Deihl - super bowl champs T's Jermon Bushrod- Saints LT, Matt Light- Pats LT Bryant "i beat small guys with clubs" Mckinney Ravens LT Bryan Bulaga- Packers LT

You MUST consider all these players "invaluable studs" then right? These are the best teams in the league, surely theyd have one...

Since your so good at bringing up former draft picks james walley....

REMEMBER the last time we took a LT high in the draft?? BRYANT FRICKIN MCKINNEY

BOY that sure worked wonders for us! Remember that cant- miss- never-gave up a sack in college LT?? LOL

Maybe its me that should get the tylenol. U all have swayed my opinion ZERO

Good Debate though boys, its been fun

Oh slam...I've been had. I lose. It's kinda like when you argue with your 7 year old and you can never seem to win......ya its like that kind of losing. It's like yes we have to do spelling words tonight....

Yeah ok Goblu, u really took me to school in your own mind...

We all want the vikes to get better and we all agree the o line needs an upgrade. 3 is too high for a Tackle for me, we'll agree to disagree

Oh, so im wrong about Mckinney James? He was sure an "invaluable stud"... really turned our franchise around

Gosh U guys are so smart, I wont make you argue with a "7 year old" anymore james.

Gimmie a Tackle at 3!

I might be wrong, but even more recently we drafted a reciever at 7 that was an even bigger bust. Blue can you Google that for me? Can't seem to remember......

Blake! For the 5th time go get your book, its time to read!

I didn't take you to school, that would imply you want to learn and have the capability to factually analyze something. Also, I don't want the vikes to get better, I'm a lions fan. I'm objectively analyzing the best pick for the Vikings.

Kalil is a no-brainer pick for the Vikings. good teams are built in the trenches. You can't find a single NFL analyst that would advise against selecting a stud LT in the draft

What is it with you bringing up wr busts all the time? Im not the one thats pigeon holed into drafting 1 position, LT, with the 3rd overall pick here. I said any skill position with 3 or trade down for offensive line help and thats been my point the whole time. Is it really that unreasonable where i need to be compared to a 7th grader? I dont think so

San Fransico also did it...huge turn-around for them after 2 1st round O-Lineman picked.

And even more importantly, a competent head coach.

All of the blue chip LT's in the world won't matter with this inept coaching staff.

Pigeon holed into 1 position? You got me confused with someone else son. Everyone, everywhere agrees Kalil is the best non qb prospect in the draft. He's also low risk. The best non qb in the draft just happens to also be a huge need. It's a no brainer.

I bring up WR info simply to refute what you say about OL.....in case you didn't realize how much you bring up supposed reasons to not draft an OL. Maybe u already forgot bringing up mckinnie as a bust 2 minutes ago....LOL.

Everyone, everywhere huh? Well i better stop all this non sense about trading down and amassing more picks and maybe getting 2 lineman instead of one OR a skill position and a lineman. Lord knows that would be insane.

My goodness, you would think I said "draft a kicker with the 3rd overall pick"

You haven't been here long enough to see that I've written about 20 times that trading back and getting picks would be the favored option. I'm not into speculating about things that probably won't happen though.....hence the reason I'll go with kalil until that pick is traded.

Link to comment

Ok then let me ask u this- If Kalil is so highly regarded- would a team not want to trade up to our position to get him? Could we not trade back and get the stanford tackle and more picks? I would be much more comfortable doing that. Is it hypathetical? yeah, but its certainly feasable.

Very feasable and maybe the best way to go. Who knows. The price would have to be right. Do you really trust the Vikings to make those extra picks count...history tells us no. Spielman has been pretty good with his first pick...from there it all goes downhill. Take the sure thing in Kalil!

LMIT...I agree. But he was given a pretty decent "core" to work with. Those O-Lineman that Singletary drafted WERE the difference in Alex Smiths and the 49'ers season.

I'm not sold on Frazier...not sold on Ponder either. Do we even know if Ponder is the better option than Webb right now...I'd rather watch Webb run the show at this point.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
