Best electric fillet knife for panfish?

Question

Posted

I absolutely love using an electric fillet knife compared to a regular fillet knife. I have a Mister Twister brand that is about 15 years old--I think I have the 7" blades on it....actually, they're 8" long, but they supposedly come in 7" and 9". It's really great for filleting most fish, but it can be a little tricky when dealing with smaller panfish, which is what I find myself keeping more of these days. I've only tried a couple of other knives, but they haven't been better. Does anyone know of an electric fillet knife that works well and is a little better for finessing smaller panfish?

i have the rapala one, it has 3 different length of blades,,the shortest blade does a good job but my buddy swears by the mr. twister.

I have the twister also. I don't think its going to matter which one you use. If you are trying to clean smaller fish its going to be harder. Just like using a regular knife, smaller fish are always harder to clean.

+1 on the Mister Twister. I also have had mine for years, and works great.

I have a Mister Twister electric knife but have used Rapala and no-name versions a couple times. I'll stick with my MT. The others worked but I found no advantage over mine. One thing I have stayed away from is the cordless models as I've heard bad reports on them.

For filleting small(pan) fish I agree that they will all be pretty much the same. I have the corded Rapala and it works fine. I also agree with the trigger on the Rapala knife being a pita. I solved the problem by placing a few drops of super glue down into the lock with it open. I now just squeeze the trigger and go.

I also have the high end rapala and a corded mister twister and bubba cordless is far and away a better knife. It's quiet, comfortable to hold, great case and the new flexible blades are the best in the business. Not cheap but after your first fish cleaning you will be glad you bought it. you can get a complete guide about fillet knives for panfish from here.
