2011 Green Bay Packers, YODTT

Good win, if not the prettiest thing. Jordy is turning into a stud. As mentioned, the D is a little shaky yet. Bring on Turkey Day!!

Neal made it through w/out any problems w/ his knee. Zombo (hammy) should be back for the Lions, unless they get cautious with him and hold him out until the Giants. (He has been running/sprinting on the field for a week)

I'm going out on a limb to predict that our Packers will lose to the Lions this Thursday. In my mind, it's going to come at some point so it might as well be now. The Lions found their courage again and have a pretty good team. The D-line will own the underperforming Packers offensive line giving the Lion defensive backs a few opportunities to pick some rushed throws from Rodgers. It won't be pretty but I like to be bold in my predictions.

I'm a little worried about us this week. Our defense, if they can get in that groove that we have seen a couple times this year where they are flying to the ball and getting to the QB we will be fine. Seems like they have stepped up at the right times this year, just cant put together a fully great defensive game minus against the vikings at our house. I thought they were going to turn it around after that, but then they have a bad week after that. We need to get up big like we have been this year, but then D up! Our line HAS to give Rodgers time, We all know we are going to score points, but the Lions can put up points too. Has anyone heard anything on Starks? I see Finley having a big game this week. He's due.

Another way to look at our defensive performance is to acknowledge it has performed as well as needed to win 10 times in a row. Some weeks that's been more demanding than others. Thursday is going to be very demanding against a team with such a strong offense.

So, I'm predicting nothing, but durn I want the Pack to win! gringringrin

From the GBPG:

Green Bay Press-Gazette

Green Bay Packers running back James Starks sustained a knee bruise and an ankle injury during Sunday’s 35-26 win against the Buccaneers, but coach Mike McCarthy said it isn’t as bad as first thought.

“He’s sore,” McCarthy said Monday. “We’re going to see what he can do tomorrow at practice. He feels like it’s a little bit more like a normal day after the game. We’ll see how he goes tomorrow.”

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Starks (it was originally believed to be a knee ligament injury). I wouldn't be surprised to see them hold him out this week though.

Jennings has a knee bruise as well, and didn't play much in the second half, but is expected to play in Detroit.

The Lions will be tough, their D line & Calvin Johnson are scary good. I wouldn't consider it much of an upset if they lost.

Starks, Jennings, Newhouse, and Zombo all practiced yesterday. Word was that the doctors told Starks that his physical structure saved him from tearing his knee. Specifically, Starks is bowlegged and they told him that is what likely was the difference between him spraining his knee and tearing it.

As a Lions fan I'm fairly certain the Pack is going to win tomorrow. If the Lions start out slow at all, the Pack will bury them. They won't be able to pull another big comeback.

I'll just settle for a close game... tired of Thanksgiving letdowns.

Not a surprising first half. Neither team is playing its best. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say they look just like teams that have only had 3 days rest instead of 6. Hmmmmm. wink

Hope the Pack can stay healthy!!!!

A good win but the injuries are mounting. Yesterday it was Bishop. Hawk, and Sitton, 3 pretty critical players. Hopefully none of them is serious but we won't know until later today or maybe not until Monday.

It was good to see Starks get in for a few plays and Saine didn't look too bad in the few plays he was in on. Also a Mike Neal sighting but he didn't do a whole lot. I think that's just him not being in "football" shape yet.

BTW, I saw an interesting stat, the Packers have never lost a game where the National Anthem was screwed up. grin

I was happy to be wrong about predicting a Packer loss. As for injuries, don't forget that Starks reinjured his knee and that Walden got knicked as well. The Packers will need every day of this ten day mini-bye-week to get healthy. Kudos to Francois and Smith to play excellent at ILB. On top of that, neither had the radio signals in their helmets so they had to read hand signals from the sidelines to call the plays. That's a tall order for backups (one of whom is a rookie) to do on top of playing their first snaps.

Not a bad game glad to see suh get kicked out hope he gets a nice suspension out of it trying to stay balanced what a joke

Can tell Suh is still a spoiled kid, can't live up to his mistakes. Anyone in there right mind can tell he wasn't trying to leave the situation. I honestly don't think he's all there with the kind of blabbering he came up with to try to make him look like the good guy.

in normal life, a action such as that would leave you with an assault charge. but in the pro buisness, law's dont apply. a suspension or fine and everything is fine. good luck.

A normal tackle would be an assault on the street....

the game of football has rules, and kicking someone in the groin or stomping on someone's arm are not part of football and should not be condoned. you could say the same thing about hockey. checking is part of the game, but using your stick to slash or wack someone in the head is not. i'm not against a hard hitting game of football but if you watched the "thug" action by the Detroit player, most fans i'm sure were disgusted by that behaviour. good luck.

I don't mean to stray from the Suh incident, which I believe (along with his previous incidents) warrants a multi-game suspension. But...Is it time for the Packers to focus on team health going into the playoffs? I seems to me that Baltimore helped give the Pack., short of a series of extraordinary events, a near guarantee of home field throughout the playoffs. Would "laying up" tend to disrupt the team's rhythm.

I was glad Suh got booted. He deserved it under the rules. It was a pretty lame stomp, and I actually laughed when I saw the replay.

And now, working toward 12-0! Go Pack!!!!

Would "laying up" tend to disrupt the team's rhythm.

Yes. I understand the philosophy, but a championship team has its pride, and pride is only one factor. There's a sort of inexplicable mojo that seems to go on with a season like this. Laying up seems like it'd be thumbing one's nose at fate.

With 10 days to heal before the next game, things should be looking OK.

I would see laying up if they weren't undefeated. With the mounting pressure to have the chance to do something only one other team has done is going to be insurmountable. I don't believe you will see it happen except for the already injury related guys that need less reps in order to be healthy for the playoff games. Going undefeated is beginning to become reality for this team right now, they are all chatting about it, the schedule that's left is a given with only two more away games. So why not go for the glory, after all, this team was built on glory to begin with. laugh

You play your starters every game, pull the critical ones in the 2nd half if you have a decent lead. Barring a critical injury, they have 10 days off now, and will have a bye for the first round of the playoffs, so you want to keep everyone game sharp for the playoffs. That's way more important to me than going undefeated, although that is a real possibility.

Is there a position that does not have depth on this team? SERIOUSLY!!! At QB you've got Flynn. At RB you've got Grant and now Saine. At WR it's all depth. TE even has depth with Crabtree and Quarless able to handle the call. The OL keeps plugging away with backups, and are actually keeping Rodgers more upright than the starters were able to do. On defense, the CBs keep doing it and the backup safety (Peprah) has basically become a starter the past two years. At LB you've got depth on the inside that we didn't even realize in Francois and Smith, and at OLB you've still got Zombo and Jones. The DL even has good depth with a rotating list of nobodies (besides Picket and Raji) that continue to provide a decent rush.

I'll take off multiple hats to Ted Thompson.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pack clinches homefield throughout playoffs today. I would guess they'll go for 19-0, I just hope they will let Rodgers play until halftime in the last 3 regular season games. San Francisco lost today, I was hoping for fantasy purposes that they would keep some pressure on GB to keep playing Rodgers

Hopefully the Jennings injury is not serious......it did not look good.

The way they keep offense keeps rolling and the D keeps generating turnovers they are going to be tough to beat. Who knows with injuries.

They have to beat KC next week to clinch home field.

That's good fantasy news if true. What did I miss? New Orleans is 10-3, the Pack 13-0, 3 games left, and GB beat NO head to head. That's the first tie breaker, correct? I could be mistaken, but I don't feel like reading tiebreaker protocol, so if that's the case, fill me in.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
