2011 Green Bay Packers, YODTT

Depends on the weather. If there is snow on the ground, the only team that will be able to beat the Pack are the Giants. The Saints at home will not be beat and have a good shot at beating the 49rs in San Fran. If the title game is held at title town with freezing temps and snow on the ground the Pack will be going to the Super Bowl if it comes down to Saints/Pack.

Not sure if I agree with that since we have not been able to stop the run for weeks. BUT, it will be tough for any team to come into GB and win. GO PACK!

The NFL fields are usually okay for playoffs. If Brees is not able to throw the ball in cold weather, A. Rod won't be able to. The Pack don't have a run game either, same as the Saints.

The Giants are such a hit or miss game, you never know which Eli will show up.

You all don't have to root for the cardinals each year, for once i would like to see them win the whole thing. maybe next year farve will come out of retirement so we might have a shot.

Nice audition for Flynn, he'll get a big check somewhere next year.

Yep, people thought he played well against the Pats last year. He definitely played his way into a higher pay grade on the open market.

Congrats to him, seems like a good kid!!

I couldn't get the game on TV, but saw his INT on NFL Redzone and thought they were going to get killed. I worked on house projects and flipped it on afterwards, and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the score and him throw the 40 yarder to James Jones. I always thought he was a solid backup, but who would have thunk it!

They get a buy for the first round of the playoffs and hopefully can get fairly healthy.

First playoff test will be the New York Football Giants. They are probably the one team that can slow the game down by running the ball, moving the chains, keep Rodgers off the field, and when he's out there, lay some wood on him. I can't see Alex Smith and San Fran beating the Pack and I think Green Bay wins a shootout with New Orleans at home. In a Super Bowl, I don't think the AFC has a team that can do what the Giants have the potential to do.

Will be a great game next week.

Yep, Sunday @ 3:30.

Giants will be tough, however I think that generally once you get to this point of the playoffs, anybody can beat anybody. Have to bring it every game from here on out!!

The Giants don't run the ball as well as they used to. Go look at the Giant's RB stats compared to Grant/Starks and they aren't that different, other than TD's. Which isn't a surprise, considering the Pack throw the ball in the Redzone usually, or give it to Kuhn.

Here are the Stats:

Eli Manning 359 589 4933 29

anybody can beat anybody.

Yep, just look at what Tebow and his team just did...But, I have faith the Pack will prevail. It's a matter of mindset and who wants it more. Right now, I believe the Green n Gold cannot be beat at home. It's gonna be chilly in Lambeau on Sunday...can't wait to freeze my buns off.

depends on what giants team shows up the team that played yesterday or the team that lost twice to the skins this year

I was at the NFC Championship game at Lambeau in 2007 versus the Giants. The weather certainly doesn't bother them. On a day-to-day basis they are an inferior team to the Packers, but have the ability to play up to a championship level. You never know what you'll get out of the Giants - an improbably Super Bowl run or a Eli Manning 6INT face plant.

I'm just hoping that Green Bay advances to the championship game because I'd love to watch another game against the Saints or a matchup against the 49ers.

Sad day in Green Bay:

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- A body pulled from a river in Oshkosh, Wis., Monday has been positively identified as that of 21-year-old Michael Philbin, son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, a source close to the family tells ESPN.

Oshkosh police have yet to release the identity of the body. The Packers, who are preparing for Sunday's NFC divisional playoff game game against the Giants, canceled player availability Monday.

Police have been searching for Michael Philbin since Sunday evening. He disappeared at about 2 a.m. Sunday after an outing with friends in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus area, about 50 miles from Green Bay.

Joe Philbin spent Monday in Oshkosh, where divers recovered the body of a man between the ages of 20 and 25 from the Fox River in late afternoon after a security guard reported hearing cries for help from someone on the ice. Oshkosh police said foul play was not suspected, but the man's name was being withheld until his family is notified.

Michael Philbin is the second-oldest of six children to Joe Philbin and his wife, Diane.

"The Philbin family's obviously going through a tough time right now, and as we always have, we're a family-first philosophy with our organization, with our program," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the day. "So we're supporting Joe and his family the best we can, and we're holding out hope that this comes to a positive conclusion."

The offensive-minded McCarthy calls his own plays and has a hands-on role with game planning, but Philbin's behind-the-scenes detail work with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the offense would not be unnoticed. McCarthy said he has contingency plans in place to prepare for Sunday's game if Philbin remains away from the team.

"We're prepared to do whatever we need to do as a staff to make sure our team's ready to go," McCarthy said, brushing aside a question about what the Packers would be missing if it did not have Philbin's input this week. "We'll be ready to go."

Packers players took to Twitter with supportive messages.

"As children we all have to someday say goodbye to our parents, but a parent should never have to say goodbye to their child," said offensive lineman T.J. Lang, whose father, Thomas, died last week.

Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji wrote that "life is too short."

"Live in the present," he tweeted.

Joe Philbin has been with the Packers since 2003 and has been the team's offensive coordinator since 2007. He interviewed for the Miami Dolphins' vacant head coaching job last week.

*******************

RIP Michael Philbin.

If it would not have been for 2 very bad calls, the Pack would have really took it in the chin.

The Pack has a very good team but the Giants do too.

Packers=FAILURE

Apples to apples, Vikes went 15-1 and at least went to OT in the NFC championship game against the Falcons, none of this 1 and DONE.

Opener and the week after were good.  Not the numbers we normally get but better quality in the East End.  Not surprised on the weights for the Auto City a.  Usually for us we only catch a few slot fish but we averaged 3 a day for 10 days.  2 overs, biggest 27 inches.     Our best luck was 12-16 feet for quality.  When we went deeper we caught more but smaller.  Bass were really starting to heat up.  For me little earlier than normal.  Found some nice Bluegills the day we went after some panfish.  Dock fishing was as many as we wanted per usual.

We will be up on June 8th for the week. It will be our 13th year in a row staying on the lake.  I hope the walleye are hitting the bobbers by the time that we get there.

Those are some fine specimens. Great job

I'm quite shocked to hear that a walleye tournament is still doing a live weigh in.  Virtually every event these days around here is doing a catch, photo, and release format.   Regardless, nice work.  Congrats.

On the south end...   A great week of fishing with walleyes and saugers caught in good numbers.   The go-to presentation, again, was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 17 - 21' of water.  Various schools of walleyes and saugers across the south shore.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.   Some big pike and jumbo perch being caught by walleye anglers. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers normally head to the lake.  12 - 15' of water is holding some nice fish.   Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes being caught along with a mixed bag.  12 - 25 feet of water.  Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water were holding good fish this week.    The go-to presentation was a jig and minnow as on the south shore.  A mixed bag as is common around the Angle.

Nice work!   Here's two words you hardly ever hear anyone say anymore.  "grateful and humbled"

RLG, thanks for the shout-out!     Jeff and I are still trying to wrap our heads around what happened this past weekend.  We are humbled and full of gratitude  for having won 'The Classic' for a second time.     We practiced through all the rain on Thurs and the wind on Friday and found six different spots holding big fish.  Fishing was good on both days with several 'overs' in our catch...but would it hold up for another day?   We didn't know.     On tourney day, we made a long run to our first spot where I lucked out on a 26.5"er on my second cast.  Jeff followed up with a thick 27" er a few minutes later, which turned out to be the big fish for the event at 7.26lbs.  We finished out our limit and weighed-in at 10:30 am for the welfare of the fish in our livewell.    There were some big weights in this event which would have won in most other years, but - for whatever reason - this was our day.  Everything just went our way.  Again, we are just super grateful and humbled by this success.  We also want to congratulate all the other anglers who did well and give a big 'thank you' to the tournament organizers who put on such a great event!

I had a good start to the season on opener. Fishing was slow but consistent. I had four eaters in the box by lunch dragging perch raps. Crappies were biting. I haven't been up since so don't know how things have changed since then, but I'm sure the walleye continue to migrate out into the main basins.

Let’s start this by congratulating Brianf and son for winning their second City Autoglass Walleye Classic last weekend. These guys know how to fish.  We just got to the lake for the season. Chores are almost done and I’m ready to fish.  red(new dog is more yellow)labguy

I tried starting a 2024 Lake Vermilion Fishing Report topic but it doesn't show up on this board.   Maybe somebody else knows how to do it?
