Yep. Collins is out. The difference last year was that Peprah was replacing a rookie who had yet to make his mark. This year he may be replacing a 3-time Pro Bowler, if they let him. I liked Peprah's play but the reality is that he's not fast....but he is a steady presence. I do like the rumors that I heard about Darren Sharper being interested in coming back to GB.

So on the field there really is no difference. Peprah last year, Peprah this year. Last year worked out OK. smile

Yeah, I know, would've been better to keep Collins out there.

We're arguing the minutia, I just think that at first glance there is a difference between Nick Collins starting at safety opposite Peprah versus Morgan Burnett. However, Burnett has loads of potential and like any young dude has some parts of his game to clean up. In the end, I don't think that this will hurt the Packers too much...if they can sign Sharper to a league minimum, offer some backup time and the chance at a ring, I would think that he'd be excited. Good insurance for the Pack

thats a tough one to loose, hopefully the D can pull it all together and rattle Cutler

They were down 3.5 D starters against the Panthers. (Williams, Neal, Zombo, Collins-2nd Qtr) This team is good at overcoming adversity, and Williams should potentially be back next week, allowing Woodson to move back into the slot. Capers said they went into conservative mode (zone) when Collins got hurt. The loss of Neal and Zombo is definitely hurting the pass rush - part of the reason teams have been racking up passing yards against them.

I really don't like that rumor. He takes way to many chances on the field and gets burned. I dont think he would fit well in our 3-4 scheme. Not to mention, I dont see TT bringing him in, he's going to work with what he already has. And to me, we have a lot of good players to fill for Collins. No doubt, we are going to miss him, mainly because of how well he plays the middle of the field. But we missed A LOT of players last year and had guys step up in a big way. I personally think they will move Woodson over to safety in different situations. I think he would excell a lot in the middle, he's not as fast as he was, but is very smart. Bears are going to test us in all aspects down the field with Collins out, I can see it already.

Went to Lambeau for the first time last year, week 13, Green Bay was deadlocked with Chicago for the division. Chicago was behind Detroit all game, and we got all those Lions highlights during the commercial breaks and no mention that, ohbytheway, Chicago came back and won. They also showed Favre getting knocked out by Buffalo, which drew a huge cheer, and Jackson throwing a Pick-6 to the Bills. Never got another highlight of the game, just a posting with the rest of the scores that the Vikings won going away.

So as much as some would like to think it's only a Minnesota thing, the purple kool aid, delusional and homer fans, the biased announcers, the homer talk show radio hosts, it happens in all 50 states of the U.S. of A. You just gotta get out to see it, travel a little bit and get some culture smirk

Just keep telling yourself that and eventually you'll believe it's true. "I'm not in Loserville USA anymore, I'm not in Loserville USA anymore..."

I think what you meant to say was that you need to leave the state for a while so that when you come back you'll realize just how pathetic it really is.

Wasn't trying to needle you LMIT, or other Packer fans, I'm just telling it like it is. (But seriously where does your inferiority/superiority complex come from?)

I'll give a non-Packers example. Was in Denver listening to Sports Talk radio last month and 3 callers in a row wanted to ask the host why Tebow shouldn't start this year and how great the team was going to be, should be able to win the division, maybe make the AFC championship, etc. As an objective outsider, I actually asked one of my servers at a sports bar who he thought should start for the Broncos. He said Tebow! I couldn't believe it. The guy looks terrible in preseason games and projects as a third stringer at best and half the state wants to hand over the starting job!

If you believe provincialism only occurs in Minnesota, you don't get out much!

What I don't understand is where this attitude even comes from.

Because the Football Forum is overrun by Vikings fans, purple is the color of the KoolAid most everyone is drinking. Thus, it's the color non Vikes fans have the most opportunity to make fun of.

Doesn't mean we don't realize our fan base is just as full of doofuses as any other team's. crazy

But it appears to have hit home in some way. Always nice to get a rise out of the moderator. Must have been a cunning presentation of an amazing artificial drifted across a pool ripe with purple trout. gringringrin

Foss, I think there's a snipe hunt you're late for in the bird watching forum whistle

Back to YODTT! I'm liking my James Starks late round pick better and better as the Pack figures out Ryan Grant is diseased.

According to SI about Lambeau Field:

Affordability & Food - #1

Tailgating - #2

Team Quality - #5

Atmosphere - #1

Accessibility - #4

Overall - #1

How would you rate the hospitality offered to fans of the opposing team?

Poor = 1%

Below Average = 3.2%

Average = 13.2%

Above Average = 31.3%

Excellent = 51.2%

I guess 2 or 3 out of what you mentioned isnt bad. smile Am I sturrin the pot!!?? JK. ALL IN GOOD FUN!

INJURY UPDATES:

Looks like Tramon Williams practiced yesterday, albeit in a limited capacity. Very positive sign, even if he doesn't play this weekend. The way he went off the field, thought it was more serious.

Also Zombo had an X-Ray and everything was positive, so he should start practicing in the near future - which is why they haven't put him on IR. Plus they really need his pass rushing ability.

Vic So'oto also practiced for the first time since his injury, again in limited action. He did really well in the preseason, even against starters, so looking forward to seeing him get back on the field.

Mathews and Woodson sat out today and may tomorrow, as both are a little banged up but expected to play this weekend. Pretty typical for them, they practice about half the time.

Pretending this is all exclusive to MN, has and always will be a big part of his bit. He knows full well its not the case but admitting that would half ruin his bit. His superiority complex won't let that happen.

It should be a good game this weekend versus the Bears. I'm sure that Urlacher, Briggs, and Peppers will put their customary clamp on the Packers offense. The Packer defense should also put it's usual thump on Cutler. Last year Week 3 came down to a Packer record for penalties. You can bet that MM will talk that up this week. Last year Jermichael Finley was the top GB receiver in Week 3, going 9 for 115 yards. In Week 17 and the Championship it was Jennings going 4 for 97 yards and 8 for 130 yards respectively. Finley should continue to be a matchup problem for the Bears defense. Forte will be the major matchup problem for the Packers if he works those screens as well as he did last week in NO, and as well as Sproles did against GB in Week 1.

I think the Bears will edge out GB in this one 31-24. Home field advantage for the Bears. Bears coming off a loss=hungry for a win.

Turnovers...penalties...it was a great win but more to work on. At the very least, you can always count on the Bears to bring out your flaws. This shows the progress that Green Bay has made since Week 3 in Chicago last year.

Still the same things to work on. Poor pass defense, mediocre running game. If those things don't improve, all it'll take is for Rodgers to have a slump and face a few excellent passing teams at the same time.

Well, I'd very much rather face those challenges at 4-0. smile

doesnt seem like they are getting the QB pressure like they did last year, the secondary is looking ugly

This from a die hard...

WHAT SECONDARY? YUCK!

As far as pass rush... other teams just need to double up Matthews and even hold him, they will not call it and our pass rush is nullified. No one else is stepping up to the plate. Would be nice to have Jenkins back right about now... Where is Hawk? Oh yeah back in pass coverage because we have no scondary! We have serious problems on defense... Offense has disguised those... Still liking the 4-0 start and the next few weeks should be fairly easy... but it is the NFL!

The running game while certainly far from stellar is just enough to keep the opposing defense honest...

Good Luck!

Ken

im not to worried about the running game i think having Starks and Grant in the backfield is a good combo, just need grant to stay healthy. I bet Jenkins is wishing in was in GB right now.

Things are looking good and I'm not even that concerned about the defense. Look at the fantasy season that most offenses are having this season and how most defenses are getting blown down. While discouraging it's what the NFL wants: an offensively dominated game like the NBA.

What has amazed me so far about Randall Cobb is his balance. Thinking back to his Week 1 108-yard return, he had that great ability with Kuhn's help to stay on his feet and continue to the endzone. Against the Broncos, Cobb was twice knocked around and on his way to the ground but found ways to stay up and gain more yardage. That's a great attribute.

I'm excited to see what happens when they are able to start working Alex Green into the mix. This is a talented team at all levels.

Not worried about the running game, we're 14th in the league, which isn't bad at all for a pass first team.

We are #2 in Rush D. The problem with the Pass D is the pass rush. They were expecting Raji/Neal/Zombo to supplement the Claymaker. With Neal & Zombo being out, and Raji playing just about every down, they just aren't getting home often enough. Doesn't help that Collins is out for the season, and Burnett switched to his position and Peprah is playing strong safety. Most of the big plays through the air were mistakes by Burnett, but he will get better. Neal and Zombo are supposed to be back after the Bye, but we will see.

No team is perfect, and they are 4-0, so hopefully they can tighten up the secondary and start generating some pass rush.

Good points.

The rank of our rushing defense is misleading because teams give up on the run trying to play catchup to our offense. Our pass defense is leaky because that group spends a lot of time on the field. If Rodgers and company didn't keep hitting 50 yard bombs for scores, the defense could rest a little longer. However, I'll take shootout wins just like I'll take grind-em-out wins!

Forgot to mention the Pack signed Jordy Nelson to a contract extension through 2014. He's basically become the #2 receiver, as Driver is the starter but doesn't play nearly as much anymore. Jordy has the 3rd most receptions on the team behind Jennings and Finley.

Only player left that will be a FA next year would be Finley, and supposedly they are waiting to see if he can stay healthy. Next year they will probably have to do extensions for Jennings and Rogers.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
