Goes to show how tough it is to repeat.

Not that the Vikings or their fans would know anything about that...

Almost... The Giants/Cowboys game is huge. If the Giants get in the playoffs, they are the only team that will be able to beat the Packers. But, there is no way the Giants get by the Saints without a miracle. Nobody else can travel to Green Bay and get a win. The Saints, Falcons, 49rs, and Lions all get smoked in Green Bay. If the Giants make the playoffs, their biggest test will be getting past the Saints. If that happens, the Packers do not make the Super Bowl.

I thought the seeding would have us play the Saints first. And its nice SF took them out for us.

Nice call...defense is rearing it's head. Question is....can anyone come up with a game-plan to stop Brady? Pressure Brady and he falls like Rodgers....so close yet so far away.

As a Packer fan, I'm disappointed in the loss. However, I celebrate the Giants and 49ers wins as evidence that defense CANNOT be ignored if a championship is the ultimate goal. Let this be the motivation for the Packer management to address the team needs for next year.

Great year Pack!!! You provided a lot of enjoyment and entertainment!! Your loss even gave the Packer haters something to celebrate in a year when celebratory events were few and far between.

Agree, especially the front 7. Manning had all day in the pocket and any QB can look good when that's the case. In Ted I trust!!

As I saw the year, the Pack had an "adequate" defensive line. Given the secondary's weaknesses, the linebackers were forced to play back to try to cover the secondary weaknesses. When the linebackers helped with the pass rush, Ely could pick the secondary apart. The bright spot, to me, is that the secondary may be the cheapest area to improve on in the off season.

I'm waiting to see a new generation of corner backs to match up to the freakishly huge & athletic collection of tight ends emerging in the league.

Overall, it was still a fun season to watch the Packers. For everyone that gets bent out of shape of not winning the Super Bowl, I think they are missing the point of sports. The ride to the playoffs was fun. It'll be fun again to watch this team in 2012. Oh well, on to other things.

Exactly or just being the clear favorite. Also it's so tough to be dominannt like the Packers and the 18-0 Patriots were in the regular season and then carry that through the play-offs.

I will say Eli is one lucky SOB for sure... clean living?... grin

Pack will be back and more than likely be in a Superbowl in the next year or two.

Vikes will rebuild one line-men or D-Back at a time... mad

Yep. Mathews needs a compliment on the otherside. The hodge podge of ROLB's this year, just didn't do anything. Any halfway competent player should be able to get 8 sacks opposite Mathews. Letting Jenkins go was a mistake, but he was getting old and has always been injury prone, so understandable. Neal has been to hurt to provide any pass rush from the DE spot.

Ted's a great GM and I expect him to address the ROLB, DE, S, and CB spots in the draft. They'll have to figure out what to do with Woodson as well, whether that's move him to safety or what, he was a liability in coverage and didn't make nearly as many plays as last year. We'll find out in March if Collins is done or can comeback at S - he was missed tremendously this year.

On O, they'll have to figure out the LT spot. I doubt Clifton will be back, although I don't know if Newhouse is the answer or if Sherrod will come back from his broken leg in time. Driver will probably be gone as well, with Gurley moving up from the practice squad.

Overall a disappointing ending to a great season. I expect this to not sit well with them and to come back next year fired up. Having a real off-season program this year will really help the young guys as well (Shields, Newhouse, Raji, Cobb, Burnett, etc...)

Why exactly do you think he's just lucky? Eli has been the 4th best QB in the NFL this year behind Brees, Rodgers, and Brady. He provided the key run block too on Bradshaws run to set up the Hail Mary.

Eli also set the NFL record this year for most touchdowns in the 4th quarter. He had a great year and luck has nothing to do with it. Also if you look at all QB stats for all the elite quarterbacks through their first 8 years, Eli is in the top few in every catagory. If he continues at the same level he will be in the HOF. If it were not for the bad officiating the packers would have only scored 6 points and the Giants would have been over 40.

Eli said in the preseason he considers himself a top 5 NFL QB. Then he went out and proved it.

Honestly, there was a Minnesota feeling to that game, only it wasn't the usual punch to the stomach at the end like 1975, 1998, 2009. GB shouldn't have won it all last year and they should have won it this year, so it all works out (for that franchise of course, there is no karma gods for Vikings fans!).

I expect GB to be the favorite next year, so I don't think much changes for them. They have drafted well, in general, of late so if they can fill some holes they are right where they want to be.

I agree. I'm thinking they'll address their RB issue this summer and it could get scary if they get a true talent back there. They'll find the right guy that's willing to take less to win.

"They'll find the right guy that's willing to take less to win."

A runningback's shelf life has to be the shortest in professional sports... I think you're going to have a hard time finding a good one who will "take less to win". If the Packers want to solidify the running back position this offseason, they're either going to have to pay for one, or use an early draft pick on one.

There not a running team, im not saying they wont look for a back, but i think the D is there biggest issue and will address that first, then they will draft a back in the 4 round and toss him in there, Starks can be good when he needs to be, Grant is starting to loose it he looked horrible sunday, they will find a back who can catch and block

I didnt say that.

Not saying he's not an elite QB which he is.

He's lucky that in his 3 biggest wins he's had the most lucky catches that you'll ever see.

The 4th down catch in the Super-bowl was the most insanely lucky catch I've ever seen. He just tossed it up and the receiver caught it while it was pinned to the side of his helmet all the way to the ground.

And then in Packer game where they should have kicked the field but instead went for the hail Mary and got it.

Elite Lucky SOB. Does that work for ya?

It was actually a pretty easy hail mary pass because Green Bays pass defense was non existent once again on that play.

The pass D being non existent was a problem all year

this is what happens when a team gets over confident, they did not play rodgers in game 16, that most likely hurt them, sounds like bad coaching to me. plus a defense that is worthless.

this is why I always root for the underdog, can you tell I am a minnsota fan. even though I am a vikes fan, I will root for a team like green bay, but I seen this loss coming.

Watched last Sunday only because I wanted to see a good game.

Didn't matter who won just wanted it to be a clear and decisive victory.

The bad call on the second turnover had me wondering if this was going to be the same type corruption in Pro Boxing where the Champ is going to win unless there was a knock out.

Right then I turned a NY fan and that was compounded by the bad helmet to no helmet call that garnished GB 7 more points.

In the end it was a knock out.

2011 Green Bay Packers, YODTT is the title of this thread and GB had a very good season.

It didn't end the way you wanted but darn sure it was good for as long as it lasted.

Me, I'm glad its over. GB and the Vikes will be back next year and I will be watching.

In ending and I'm not going to say it again, con,, cong,, congr,, congrats on a great season.

Couldn't find last weekends game on the listings either. frown

I forget, too. It's either 15:02 or 03:13 (military time). One's the Vikings and one's the Packers, but I can't remember which is which. blush

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
