Sharpen electric fillet knife blades?

Question

Posted

Some low-down miserable sneak thief chipmunk kickin'beer swillin no good relative took my electric fillet knife. Went to use it today and it is so dull you could not slice chilled pablum with it.

What is the trick to sharpening? Easier to just buy new blades? I can sharpen some top quality bread and carving knifes that are serrated and my guess would be that same technique would apply?

Lay it on me you guys.

x2 for buying new blades. They last a good long time, and are not that expensive.

Buy new blades and store them away from the rest of the knife. Keep the dull ones for the relatives.

I do agree about just buying new blades...Once you loose the edge on these blades, it's not worth the hassle of keeping them up.

Thanks guys. Ordered new American Angler Efk. Will leave the old knives with the useless blades right where they are easily found. New knife will be hidden where the good chisels and good drill bits are kept; right with the sharp planes and Japanese saws.

Knife I ordered is supposed to be good stuff and since I only use one about twice a year it will last me forever. Or at least, MY forever. Ha!!

Good choice.

I used to sharpen mine but the blades are so hard that I kept needing new sharpening tools after just a few sharpenings. A blade usually last a year or so if you use it a lot.
