Any reports out there? Not much luck today just wondering if anyone has anything good going for them. I'll take any report just wondering.

Been really slow from what I've heard and experienced myself. Some of the guides aren't even contacting any fish. Personally I think the muskies are all full of tulibees which are very abundant this year.

Fishing has been a little slower, seeing a few here and there, waiting for a little bit of the stringy weeds to burn off, but the great thing about the V is you can fish many different kinds of structure, dont be afraid to explore and try new tactics!

Any new reports on the ski fishing up there? Are they on the rocks on the west end? I'll be up August 3-8 and fishing the tournament on the 6th anyone else fishing in it?

For what it is worth, I can report that there really aren't a lot of musky fishermen out on the west end, compared to previous years. I go out in the evening to fish for whatever and most rock piles are vacant. And the weeds in front of our cabin are also vacant, more often than not.

Thanks del, yes it has been a weird year so far water temps and fishing pressure. It has been very slow for me atleast, hope it picks up this week.

As of about 30 minutes ago (12:30pm) water in head o lakes out from the cabin was 76 degrees. Today we are on the downwind side.

Thanks del for the info. Seems to me right now that you are pretty much the only one that will respond, either the fishing is that bad or so good that people are keeping quiet. But if anyone has any reports feel free to post.

Latest water temp. reading was 71 degrees. Pretty good east (more or less) wind with a high of 60 at best. It was ugly. Saw a few musky guys this afternoon. I guess they "love the pain". I had on a fleece jacket over a sweatshirt and had to put on my guidewear parka.

Threatened afternoon/evening thunderstorms never materialized. Did have morning thunderstorm and a brief power outage

The muskie fishing has been SLOW for me. Fishing mostly weeds and hitting rocks from time to time. Been moving some fish during peak times. However, that is only taking into consideration a couple of weekends of fishing in the last 2 months...

My guess is that you have just as much or more on the water information than the average guy on here. Seems like you are up there every weekend and then some... Do you have any feedback to offer?

I will be up July 30 though Aug 6th. Sounds like our timing is right for water temps. From what I have read water temps have been consistently in the mid 60's into the low 70's for a few weeks now. I would imagine people are moving tons of fish but I wouldn't expect a bunch of chatter being posted, which is understandable.

Good luck everyone. I will post some info when I get back. I cant wait for the 15 hour days of casting and blasting!!! I have been resting my forearms smile

On the west end, the water temp has been in the low to mid 70's for at least a couple of weeks. So far as I can see here there haven't been too many musky fishermen out. Last evening was perfectly pleasant and I only saw a very few boats within sight of where I was bass fishing.

Zebra same here I have been really hitting it hard when up there, but I just seem to be having hard time. Have got a 42.5 and a 49 so far this year, but just seems weird that I have not seen more fish. Most all fish that I have moved have been on small bucktails but now they are up on bigger stuff like cowgirls. This is my 5th year so trying to figure out what else can do to put more in the boat. Some tips I have for you would probably throw baits till one works and keep going back at the same fish that you are seeing and get them to bite. And starting now is really the time to night fish.

Read your post again. You have it figured out. Just put the puzzle together, all the pieces are in your post. Think about it.

Urban Cowboy hit it right on the head...

Sounds like Muskyhunter52 has all the tools and time on the water someone needs to put fish in the boat. Just keep working at it and everything will come together... And WHEN that happens you can read these posts about fishing being terrible and just smile and not reply because you found a pattern and are nailing the fish.

Time on the water trumps random tips/reports on the internet... Although they do come in handy sometimes smile

Anyways we can get back to fishing reports now...

Well if you guys say so, I hope this next week works out. Really hope to put atleast a couple in the boat. And I will post the reports when I get up there next wednesday.

But yes reports, I am guessing that atleast by now they are on the rocks now on the west end. Normally on the east end they move on the rocks earlier. If I were you probably throw cowgirls and smaller bucktails but also change it up with some gliders and top water.

Downsize and burn buck tails during the day. Be ready to figure 8.

Throw big blades and slow top water evening into night. Like a creeper style bait.

With two guys in the boat during the day, Downsized fast buck tail in the front of the boat and a downsized glider in the back of the boat.

At night, slow rolled cowgirl in front, slow top water in the back.

IMO. Try this for a week consistently and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the info cowboy, seems to me that you really know what your doing also. By chance are you fishing in the tournament next saturday?

Generally smaller baits will see more action during the day and that is why you have seen most of your fish on small buck tails. With the cowgirl heating up and the night bite turning on you will now be able to go back at night and catch those fish with bigger baits.

IMO, I like to throw contrasting baits with my fishing partner. Fastest bait in the front of the boat, and a erratic action or top water bait in the back of the boat. With contrasting baits you are giving the fish an option and they will let you know which presentation they want. If the fish are active then the fast bait will see more action, if conditions are tougher then the slower bait will see more action, and sometimes the fish are on to everything. Very seldom will we both throw the same bait unless a noticeable pattern has been established and then we both throw the same bait.

Think about all the times you are both throwing cowgirls for 6 hours straight and you don't see a fish.

I am not fishing in the tournament. It starts the day I am leaving.
