Heater/Cooker and flames

HNTNBUX

Question

For every problem others have with the big buddy heater I seem to have problems with the heater/cookery. I recently switched from a Coleman one burner stove after going through two of them in two years to the heater/cookery again. Recently while boiling water for my lunch with one pound tank attached first time the cookery would not shut off until I removed the tank. The next time flames were going through the tube towards the heating element. Almost the whole heater turned orange before I saw it under the pot and again I had to remove the tank to stop the flames. Is there a quick fix or is this junk after two uses? I bought this thing for cooking and back up for the big buddy which is still going strong.

BE CAREFUL removing your propane bottle when it does that because it sounds like your valve may be freezing up.

I had a similar incident a couple years ago with a heater/cooker. When I removed the one pound propane bottle, propane continued to exit the bottle via the valve and I was engulfed in a fireball. Luckily my wife was smart enough to get out of the porty before I did this and had the door flap opened, so I threw the whole unit out onto the ice.

Singed some hair on my hands and brows but luckily that was it.

The heater cooker I have been using for 5 years now works great but I recently bought another for the cold days fishing and I have had the same issue. Although I was not using it to cook on it still had flames in the tube.
