Cold turns everything off

Recommended Posts

Spent Sat. night in my wheelhouse not even a bite, then at 430 am my brand new heater decided to shut off. I have a Mr. Heater Blue Flame Ventless 20,000 Btu heater. I'm pretty sure the -20 had something to do with it, thinking maybe the regulator froze or something, took my propane tank home with me and went back out Sun. afternoon everything worked fine, only caught one crappie. Anyone had the heater problem before?

Yup, the regulator will freeze up once in a while, if you can point it so the vent is down, also when it gets really cold you cant get as much out of a tank.

Yea we had problems too Sat. Night could only turn the heater on 1/2 or it would go out. Thinking that it was so cold that the gas would not flow as need.

Those ventless heaters have oxygen depletion sensors. I believe they shut down when you oxygen level gets too low.

They do have oxygen depletion sensors but that wasn't the problem, I always leave both windows cracked open and I also have a carbon monoxide detector, I'm pretty convinced it was the cold

It's not uncommon for the propane to stop flowing (loss of pressure) when it gets that cold, and if the tank gets low the cold temperature makes it even worse.

If you're planning on going out when it's that cold it's a good idea to make sure your tanks are near full to help against losing pressure.
