new scope

After a hunting trip this fall where I had to take a 530 yard shot I am looking to upgrade my scope power. I got the animal just fine but the 9x leupold didnt have all i wanted for power.

I am looking at buying a 4.5-14 zeiss with the z-600 reticle to extend my distance to over 500 yards. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with this reticle system?

Not the same scope but I have a nikon BDC scope on the .300 win mag and it works great.

I guess the biggest thing I am wondering is if you sight the scope in at 200 and need to use the 400 yard crosshair is it pretty consistent? I know its not the same scope but the cross hair system looks pretty close to the zeiss.

Otherwise I was exploring the idea of an actual tactical scope but this seems it would be easier.

You will have to take yours to the range and find out, but mine is very accurate with the bdc and wouldn't have a problem use the 400 yard circle on a deer and knowing I will hit were I want too.

The Nikon Prostaff scopes are hard to beat. Cabelas has them on clearance in the Bargain Cave and online right now.

I just bought a 2x7 for my sons new 308 for $89.99. Regular $139.99.

But if you are looking to spend the big bucks, then this wont suffice for you.

Don't overlook the Cabelas Alsakan Guide scopes, we have 2 on a 300 RUM and 300 Win Mag and are great scopes. Both are 3x12x52x30mm tubes. Think I paid $119 for both in the cave and been very hapy with them for several years now. Not the high priced one you are looking at but when I was looking they seemed as good as the high end ones, and I'm not one to normaly buy cheap gear. So far both have never had to be readjusted after many hunts and 1000's of miles of travle and a few hundred rounds. I have mine zeroed at 300 and with the right conditions wouldn't hesitate to shoot an elk at 500 and deer well beyond that. BTW 2-2.5" groups at 300 yards, combo can do better I can't anymore.

Here are a couple thoughts. I have a Leupold 4.5-14x with the B&C reticle(it also has a standard moa dial) that I've had good luck with. It's worked well on a .243WSSM out to 400+ for P-dogs so 600 is certainly within the equipment's big game capability, which the reticle is designed for. That said, I've only had access to 450yrd target ranges so that's what I can speak to. They go for a little over $600.

I have a feeling Huskemaw Optics would interest you. While I do not own a Huskemaw product, I know they offer scopes calibrated to a specific caliber & load and are setup so when zero'd, you simply adjust the elevation dial to the range (in yardage) out to something like 1000 yards. No dope charts or complex math necessary.
