The snow, the slush . . . it never ends

Recommended Posts

We had about 1-2 inches at the house in Ely today. Now the NWS is calling for an additional 3-5 overnight and by noon tomorrow.

Just when it looks like the really cold weather is going to tighten up some of the slush problems, we get another snowfall. Makes a guy wonder if we're going to get ahead of the slush the rest of the winter.

A guy's gotta love a real MN winter. sick Most people have given up on clearing the snow, its just non stop.

How much snow do you guys have on the level now? It has to be waist deep in some spots (not on the lakes). Guess this is pay backs for a couple of seasons of easy lake travel.

yep it seems most of my spare time has been removing snow this year. Have had to take the snowrake to the roof twice and may have to again. The snowbanks in town are making traveling through intersections a bit iffy, and running out of space in the yard to put snow from the driveway, the deck and sidewalks. Gonna be a mess with this starts to melt.

It could be worse.....

No way, this has got to be a kids play house in the yard or something? Not sure how the snow would stack up 30 feet as high as the house on top without the wind blowing it a little more unevenly if it was a full size house! shocked

Huum, could be but still not sure how the roof would hold up 100 tons of snow on it? shocked

Don't have to go that far. I know a couple folks went to school on the UP of michigan, Houghton maybe? and there was crazy snow there.

Hey, it's a beautiful new winter wonderland out there. Got about 6 new inches from today, with heavy snow still coming down and no end expected for several more hours.

So I'm thinking: Snowblowing and roof snow removal tomorrow for us and others. And Sunday. And Monday, And . . . . gringringrin

Steve,

Just got in from a snowmobile ride down the Tomahawk. Some of it was pretty fluffy, but a minimum of 8 and in some places closer to 10. HARD to see, almost got lost a couple of times!

Ken,

Just got home from Ely about an hour ago, and there is one heck of a lot of snow on 88 and the Van Vac Road. There was probably 8 inches or more, could hardly see to drive, and the plow was pushing snow all the way and it wasn't down! mad

This is going to make Burntside Lake one big slushy mess, far worse than before. cry

Don't know how long it will take to recover (if at all this season) from this setback! confused

No doubt the Burntside slush will be worse. I'm also not sure if it'll tighten up very much through the rest of the winter. That's a LOT of snow to insulate things against even the most frigid air temps. Maybe it'll improve as the snow compacts over time, but even if there's improvement I'll bet we have some slush in places all the way through until March.

And the NWS just upped the overnight snow forecast, as well as calling for 1-3 new inches tomorrow. I'm betting on at least a solid foot of new snow this time. Sheesh.

So my new motto for the rest of the winter regarding Burntside is the three Ss (sled, shovel and shutup). gringringrin

If you dare to head out on Burntside with this new snowfall within the next few days, your motto will most likely be: sled, shovel, Life Flight to St Mary's laughlaugh

On the bright side, the Fun Run is going on this weekend, and with all the snow there are a LOT of sleds packing down the staked trails on Burntside. Lots of excellent laker water within half a mile of the staked trails, which makes things a bit more doable when sledding off the trail.

I bet the North Arm is a ghost town right about now. smile
