I agree with everything you said in your post, but I can't stress out that there are people who's intentions to come on this website is not like yours and mines. People use this website to gain knowledge in a different way sometimes and the outcome can possibly become negative. I've met people who keep bucket loads of fish and bring their whole cities out to lakes like these an outting at a time only to return the following day with more people. I can admit that Whaletail a while back had some decent fish not to mention that a record fish once came out of this lake, but I've seen this lake get hammered more and more every year with people targeting these "8 inch" crappies.

You tell a guy about a lake with decent fish and he tells three other guys, soon you've got everyone around your "honey hole" remember that art is in the eye of the beholder, an 8 inch fish might be normal to you but massive to others. I remembered when Waconia was still good fishery (not to say it isn't still good fishing), but now you got idiots trashing the lake, leaving dead fish around, and people fighting over "honey holes."

Decoy or not, people will read this thread and people will be interested enough to drive out there and fish this lake regardless. I don't own the lake and I don't condemn people from fishing it but sometimes it can become the wrong bunch fishing it. My family and I have fished this lake for a long time and I would still like there to be fish in this lake and lakes like this in the future so the memories we make now can also be someone else memories in the future.

Are driving conditions to the whale's tail pretty good? Is there any fishing to be had in the main lake, or is the tail the place to be in the winter?

Well said.

The intent of this site is to share fun stories, pictures, tips etc. You could shut this site down entirely and the discussion just moves elsewhere, to site B or C or Facebook, or the local baitshop or even via text messaging.

I don't disagree that lakes get pressured and that there is a contention of hot bite fisherman buzzing around the metro area that can an will put a dent in small lakes, but it's like trying to P into the wind, it really is.

Life is short, fishing is supposed to be fun. cool

My lake gets hammered blah blah blah, People keep my fish blah blah blah. I along with other "Good" fisherman are trying better techniques and believe it or not finding new spots. I have fished over 50 lakes this winter and witnessed all this in prev posts, but if the lake and the people dont fit your standards than WHY FISH THERE??? Thousands upon thousands of Lakes and people still whine...

If your good at fishing you dont rely on posts of "hot bites" and "slab crappies" to determine where you go. And on top of that the average joe isnt gona go out to a new lake that he heard about here and slam the 11-12" crappies unless he hits some sort of a fluke. Large fish are normally only caught in numbers by experienced anglers who dont have to worry about their secret spot getting out because they have dozens. And all lakes in MN are public, so why not share the good fishing with a guy and his kids???

I got no arguments with this statement! I catch fish right in the middle of the crowds. Got to know how to get them boys!

Good fisherman finds the fish. Bad fisherman waits for the fish or sets house up next to someone they don't know IMO. Fishing reports is about spreading the enjoyment of catching fish to others so they can possibly experience that enjoyment also.

Some of you guys are just a bunch a babies. My lake gets hammered blah blah blah, People keep my fish blah blah blah. The difference between good fisherman and the people "crying above" Is while you guys are crying about your spots getting trashed I along with other "Good" fisherman are trying better techniques and believe it or not finding new spots. I have fished over 50 lakes this winter and witnessed all this junk spoken about in prev posts, but if the lake and the people dont fit your standards than WHY FISH THERE??? Thousands upon thousands of Lakes and people still whine... Now I know why i come on here... not to see the reports or share the next fishing story.... but to see everyone cry about the fishing and lakes.
yea tell everyone wassup. F'ing whiners

I just really don't understand why people tell what lake they are catching " big fish " from. Its great that you are proud of catching big fish, Hell i am... I just tell people a lake in the west metro, because I want to go out to the lake again and not have hundreds of people out where I was fishing. I'm not saying don't tell family and friends, But having thousands of people reading posts. that's pretty hard on a small lake. I'm not trying to sound all high and mighty, that's not the point I'm trying to get across. Its alote of people read these posts.

If you are not posting somewhat specific information, i.e. a fishing report, then why post? If someone can't learn from what you post, then all it is is chest thumping for your own ego. ("We caught all these huge fish but I won't tell you where...or how...or when. Can't let the secret out")

Half the people won't believe you if it is specific info.

Of the half that do, how many of them will actually take the time to go to "your" lake and how many of them will actually be able to replicate the bite you had several hours or a day ago?

Here, I'll give you one:

Lake Minnetonka, Goose Island, south side, 16 or so FOW. Panfishing during day is good with waxies and small jigs on bottom 2 FOW. Eaters mixed in with small ones. Slows at dark, but size seems to increase a little. Fun for the kids.

Where, when, what, and how. That is a fishing report.

Now, is everyone going to flock to that spot and fish it out? Doubt it, but if you are there stop by and say hi.

Hey guys, guess what. Earlier I posted where the panfish were biting on Minnetonka. I gave an actual report that some would consider "detailed".

Here is what I learned from that today:

1. The world didn't end. In fact, the sky didn't even fall.

2. I sat on the exact spot I gave information about and not one person, all afternoon, fished within 300...dare I say...400 yards of me.

3. Just because I am on this site all the time doesn't mean that the rest of the fishing world is, or even cares where I am.

We caught about 50 fish in the 2 1/2 hours I was out. I kept 8 because the kids wanted to eat some tomorrow night. I was intrigued as to which fish the kids decided they would keep. Wasn't always the biggest (which would have been easier to fillet), but they had their reasons!

Thanks for the report Mike. Although I do find it hard to compare a lake that is 558 acres(which the original thread was about) to a lake that is 14,101 acres. I'm glad to hear you and the kids got into some fish though and I hope the fish fry is delicious!

You're welcome.

The size disparity of the lakes is not lost on me.

The rest of my comments are in a new thread...
