Hi,

I am wondering how people are doing out on green. I am thinking of heading there this weekend. Thanks for the reply.

My son is doing O K on small pike. Up to 30 inches. All the tiny crappies and sunnies you want out there. The crappie slot failed miserably.

earlier this week I spent around 10hrs out there 2 to 12 and caught well over a hundred crappies. Ended up getting a limit 9 1/2" to 10 1/2". not really worth it in my opinion but even though they where small still fun to catch.

Sounds like last year. Great place to take a kid fishing. They will be way too busy catching fish to play in the minnow bucket !! Have fun .

Love this lake id suggest going to it! But if you looking for size prolly not the best for panfish though they are plentiful! Lots of bass in pike even some walleyes if you try for 'em good luck!

Went out yesterday! Nothing on big Green on the southern break. Went back to Little Green and got my limit of sloppies all 11's within 2 hours. caught all of them from 7 to 9. Did anyone fair well on the southern break.

Was out here last night as well and caught over 100 crappies around 8 inches. Action wise this is the place but size wise is a few and really far between(atleast that's what it was like where we were at). They were biting anything from jiggin raps, spoons, darters, waxies, and minnow. Fun nice cold night to be out though.

Thanks. I fished it Sat 1 - 6. Started in the southern part, not all the way back, but more by the first narrows from the access. All I got there was small perch and sunfish. I then fished the steep drop on the east side and didn't get much there. Didn't find a crappie.

fished the south end last weekend and seen lots of crappies and sunfish on the camera but only caught little sunnies. bigger fish would swim right on by weren't even interested. was better a week ago

Crappies are all in the deep around 24-26 ft. I fished just north west of the boat launch in 25 ft and caught quite a few. Stayed away from the crowd and found action.

I was out there over the weekend. I hole hopped around and saw lots of Sunfish on the camera but no Crappies....Once in a while I would see a single Crappie pass by, but that didn't happen too often either.

11 inches at green is like 1 in every 50-60 crappies you catch. It is possible to limit out on big ones if you find the right spot. I have caught several 11-12's this year.

When I fished Green for Crappies last week the biggest we caught was 10.5" and that was with probably close to 70-80 crappies caught in my group. I believe they are in there but I wish I could find ten 11 inchers in there!

General question... I keep seeing people on this forum say that they won't keep a crappie if it isn't 10inches or more... if the point is to ACTUALLY eat some fish for once... what's wrong with frying up fillets from a mess of 8-9 inchers? They're just as easy to clean and ten 8" crappie put plenty of fish on the table for a family of four.

I'll take my answer "off the air"... just looking to generate some discussion.

i dont know of too many lakes in the metro with a lot of 10 plus crappies. now you do get some here and there but i agree with you there is nothing wrong with keeping those 8 to 9 inchers for a meal. good luck.

There is just too many 8-9 inchers in there that after awhile you just want to catch something bigger. They are more than plenty to make a meal but it's just more fun to get the bigger ones.

Where exactly are you guys catching crappies on green lake? Went last Saturday for the first time at green and caught no crappies just bluegills. Just wondering which area is best for some crappie action?

all over.. find some of the deeper holes and there should be some there.. or the shallow flat on the south end will have cruisers.. If you were looking for crappie and only catching sunfish, you needed to move around more. Not trying to be rude, just saying.

Are cars able to drive around on the lake? My truck is not available, and my "secret spot" on the lake is north of the shanty town (which I'm assuming is still in the same spot?).

Crappies at green is way more fun than bald eagle plus you get more bonus walleyes and big crappies. They bite more towards the night and when you find them they will bite almost anything.

because it sounds a lot cooler to have a limit of 10"+ fish smile. But in reality why wouldnt you keep bigger fish, many say its bad for the gene pool in the lake, and they dont taste as good. I have yet to experience either of these, when i go out for crappies 10" is fairly easy to find. Same for sunnies for that matter. I prefer to keep to myself on the lakes, keep what you so choose, thats why its YOUR catch.

Stay on the main trails and you'll be ok. The snow is not deep, but enough to get stuck at some areas without 4x4.

This lake isnt as good as it used to be for Crappies anymore. Gotta work for them now a days out on this lake.

In my opinion its better than it used to be. Maybe not size wise but in numbers. If you cant catch 30+ crappies a night you are either doing something wrong. I have had luck in all depths 7'-30'. Sure you have to weed out the small ones to get a meal but its still alot of fun.

After so many years of the special regulation, and with no good results, I am not surprised to hear this. In my opinion, if the goal was to produce good numbers of quality sized fish, they should have put a MAXIMUM size to the harvestable size crappie instead of a minimum. I think a good number would be 11 or 12 inches for at least a few years. Better yet, let the market decide. The neat thing about most lakes is that they are hot for size and numbers for a couple years, the word gets out, the lake gets fished down, and then ignored until it's hot again. My 2 (or 3) cents.

Was out this evening for a couple of hours and caught my limit. Nothing worth bragging about. A couple of 10", and the rest a little smaller. They were in about 20-28 FOW.

Would've liked to stay longer but the wife and kids were getting impatient.full-34423-5378-012911greenlakecrappies.
