Propane Auger question

Trytti

Question

Just broke down and bought the new Jiffy Propane auger. Love the power and the easy starting! One question though. The on/off rocker swtich always seems to be in the on position and you only press it to off when you want to shut it off. Is this correct? Reason I ask is I used it for the first time tonight and when I put it in the back of my Tahoe I could smell propane. I was wondering if this is because the on/off switch is always on? Or was it just remanents of excess propane that was left in the motor that was leaking out. It wasn't bad and I checked the connections and didn't find any leaks.

I know the owners manual says to disconnect the tank when in transport but the lake is only 5 minutes away and wonder if I have to do that every time?

It also says to run a tank until it is completely empty so I don't know why I would need to disconnect it? Maybe I am just overly cautious and was just smelling things... but wanted to check to make sure that on/off switch wasn't something to do with it...

Thanks

I've had my Pro4 since Christmas...no problems so far, really happy with it. It's only 30 seconds to remove the tank, just do it:) I have, so no smell issues...

You are correct on the switch. Jiffy has gone to this type of switch on all their augers this year. No more trying to start it and then remember to put the switch on start. As far as taking the tank off, everyone says to take the tanks off when transporting the equipment (ie heaters and lanterns) but I doubt many people actually do.

Another thing to keep in mind about that auger is that the propane it runs on is in a gas form and the gas in that bottle is a liquid. some thing to keep in mind when we have this cold of temps.
