high banks area or Denny's?

Recommended Posts

Heading up there with a buddy out of that area. looking to set on new spots that are fresh as everyone has been saying. if I am looking at a point, do sit on top, around the edge, or if I can set so the house is in 28 feet on 1 end and 30 to 32 on the other? am I looking at a perch bite only? how are the walleye's doing?

went out of denny's area 2 weeks ago and some real slow fishing a few eyes and enough perch for a meal. any help would be great. seemed to have the best luck with buck-shots only. not much dead stick or night time action.

are shiners the ticket at night?

Fished out of Denny's yesterday and only caught a couple dink perch. (I'm blaming that on the weather) They have 8 miles of road. It appears to follow the main break around the southeast side of the lake. I was sitting in 17 feet of water. Lots of slush too so be careful. Bring a sled if you want to move around cause man is there ALOT of snow. You can bring your own house they appear to be letting anyone on now. Their road is safe.

last week some friends where going to go out of there with there wheel house, they where told unless they where doing the cabin thing or use there houses not to bother cause they werent lettin anyone use the plowed roads unless. i would guess the conditions on the lake made the acess fee not worth its while if thats all some spent there. then spent the nite. BUT, as a previous poster said sounds like they are allowing it now. it appears that off road travel is not feasable unless you got a snowmobile.

ok. interesting. we had 2 vehicles 2 weeks ago, 1 house, and paid 2 fees 1 for my truck and 1 for his truck. that is very odd guess I will have to call up there when I get up there I guess,

I had heard somewhere that they had people stranded out there the week before because of a big crack that crossed their road and opened up. Not real sure but maybe they were limiting people with houses due to that. I'd for sure call and check. I used a portable yesterday. But I seen enough wheel houses coming and going to assume they are letting them on. Mobility is very limited out there right now due to all the snow and slush.

ok. what are the best jigs to use. my only lucky ones are buck shots taht are perch colored. any other thoughts on jigs? got 1 walleye on the air plane jig. and glow red. buthave tried the chubby darter, slender spoon, lightning spoon all with no luck.

even tried the gulp heads and 1 inch minnows with no luck. just a sniff and no bite3s on gulp. anyone else try it up there? or is that basically used when they will bite anything?

at Highbanks, we do indeed have great roads.

probably spending way to much on them, but I know people are having a hard time getting out not just on Winnie, but pretty much every where.

we have opened up areas to the south about a mile and a half from the resort,

to the west, to the humps just south of the big island area, that area is getting hit pretty hard lately and then north to the perch bar area.

we plowed a new road out towards Zumers bar. there is a loop at the end of the road with a couple of knock outs for those of you with big bad 4x4's to try your luck getting off and beating a trail.

there is quite a bit less snow over on that side of the lake.

and I do think those with good tires and ground clearance will be able to get around a bit.

with options like that it's hard to go wrong.

for those looking for a place to put their wheel houses, let them know when you purchase your access pass or flag down a plow truck if you see one.

on the busy weekends, it might take a bit of time to get to you but be patient and we'll help you out.

donations to the plow guys are accepted.

now, come on up and lets go catch some fish!

We went out of Highbanks with the wheelhouse last weekend. They went far above and beyond to make sure we had a good weekend. When they mentioned they would push a spur in for us, I was expecting 50 feet or so, but they pushed in close to 100 yards. I have never had anything but the best experiance with them..

Thanks!! Glad to give you a hand!! We look forward to seeing you again soon!! Road & fishing updates:‎1/20/11 Brand new roads out to Zoomers!! January Deep Freeze has hit, bundle up!! Temps should be tapering by the weekend and the bite should get back on track with the weather stabilizing!! We have spurs plowed for wheel houses and portable units to get off the roads and get set up!! Our focus has been to keep ou...r roads in good shape and keep them dry!! We are encouraging to stay at least 75 ft off the roads before drilling holes!! Despite the weather the walleyes have still been on track. Runnin' and gunnin' for the perch with sleds has been best over on Raven's

It was nice meeting you guys to. The fishing for us was slow hopefully with this warmer weather things should pick up again. I do know Sunday morning was the first morning bite we have seen in awhile did see a nice 23.5 come out of my rental, it sure made her weekend to catch a fish like that.

1/27/11 Current Conditions, we have a tremendous amount of drifted snow and slush. We are allowing public traffic onto the ice this weekend, portables and wheel houses both. As of Sunday, Jan 30 at 7:00pm - Thursday morning Feb 4th at 7:00am we will have our roads closed to the PUBLIC for road maintenance (our guests will be allowed to access). We are concentrating our efforts on getting zoomers and big island roads re-openend. We are temporary closing the roads to the public to be able to better service you and to continue to have a plowed access for the remainder of the season. We will reopen the access on Thursday Feb 4th at 7:00am. Please feel free to call 800-365-2560 with any questions. Thank you!! We appreciate your cooperation in this effort!!

Just got back from fishing out of denny's the last 2 days. Did ok got enough perch for a couple meals with 4 walleyes only one out of the slot. I would like to thank Kim at High Banks as we stopped by there to check on going there next year. She was very cooperative and helpfull even though we were not staying there she let us go out and take a look at one of the sleepers and even bought a round of beers. I will be going out of there next year!
