Ha, not me with the $200 entry fee. I will have my son at the training session at the Monticello community center on Saturday and be out on Sunday to see the "pros" at work.

yea that $200 entry fee drives a lot of people away, including my self. there are other smaller local contests that are better and cheaper also.

I sort of need to laugh at the "pros vs Amature" thinking. We are all pros in our own way. This is just a fish contest, then someone calls them pros, because they can throw $200 in a can to go fish. confused I was told that by my uncle when he fished the 1 PWT event as an amature. Jerome told me, "Jim after fishing that event, You and I are far from amatures." "We have forgotten more about fishing, then these guys could ever know. I have better things to do, like plan my april vacation, to Florida. Next is my trip to africa.

Yep 200 bucks. I believe the boundries are the north bay so look for that bay to get pounded some more! But really that bay sees a few hundred on it about every weekend so nothing new here.

Well said Jim. I enjoy watching the pro's out on pelican with their fancy equipment. Nothing against it, just drilled one hole with my old model 30 jiff with the handle on top, using my really old fl 8 when they first came out with the shallow alarm on it, and my wood jiggle stick that i've had for 20 years, fishing out of the door of my trusty pickup truck, with 14 8" plus sunnies and a couple 10" plus crappies for a bonus in the pail on the floor of the passenger side. All in one hour. I don't need to spend $200 to prove I am a pro in my own way. I'll prove it tonight when I sit down to eat em.

I fished these tournaments for about 5 years. In my opinion these tournaments are catered to a select few anglers. The tournaments were run much better a few years ago when they were run by ice team. It seems to me one or two certain people that are running them now are in it to line their own pockets.

Care to eloborate on how one can "line his own pockets" on an ice fishing tournament? Sounds like a business I would like to get into.

Duckman5547, the Osakis tournament a few years back was won by non pro anglers! wink

that is not all true... Duff is a pro ice angler and it was Mitch's fist year as his partner.. I fished that one and man was it cold...

Juan, you are correct! Didn't do my home work on that one.

Sure the Ice Men really know how to catch fish, but they have a plan in place assuring them they get there fish regaurdless of the body of water there on.

But as fishing goes, it's fishing and anything can make fish bite or not bite. And if you happen on the honey hole that has the "Bigguns" you will do good in this tournament.

There will be alot of fish to weigh at this tournament if the bite remains the same since first ice.

Good Luck to all participating! grin

I should be at the weigh in to see what type of fish were caught. If you see me, say hi. I'll be the guy in my avatar.

I'll be at the weigh-in also looking to see how my son did in the tournament.

Look for a short blond haired Finlander with a mustache and say HI!

I was hoping to do this but couldn't' find a partner. Tempted to call my brother and throw in a last minute entry but probably won't happen, and he probably wouldn't be interested in dropping a C note (main reason for my lack of motivation).

I do plan on checking out the kids clinic tomorrow morning. Maybe I can pick up a few pointers. grin

Heading to kids clinic in a few minutes. Cold for them, but I'll have my equipment with so we'll have a warm house.

My buddie was on Pelican this morning and to my understanding he out fished a couple of the so called (PRO'S) 10 to 1 who were out scouting ! wont mention any names . I know a couple of them and not to say they are all like that but in my opinion sometimes Pro is another word for Ego !!!
