would like to get a fishing league started for southcentral minnesota, just checking to see how many people would be interested. It would either be a tuesday or thursday night deal whatever worked best for the most people.

Start small and only do it for 7 weeks the first year and only needing 5 weeks registered so you could miss 2 of them if needed.

Maybe do Hanska, Long, Madison, Tetonka, German, Fox, Duck.

Will figure out a points system for each kind of fish, something along the lines of 1 point for sunfish, 2 points for crappie, 2 points for perch, 3 points for bass, 3 points for northern, and 4 points for walleye.

Team with the most points in 5 weeks wins, if you fish all 7 weeks you take your average of the 2 best weeks and your worst week and it will be your fifth week total?

let me know

I know me and my friends would way be down for this. Couple questions though. Is there a team limit. Or is this a One man deal. Also would Sunday at all work? Or is it possible that each team or person fishes when they can and we are just allowed to fish 1 day a week of your choosing.

How about -10 for bass? laugh

Yep. Same for me. It would have to be a weekend thing for me and my friends too. Also, I think you should be able to add points if the fish is over a certain size for the species. Example sunfish is 9+ inches it's worth 2. If Walleye is over 23 you get bonus 1 point or 2. It would help make scoring more interesting.

You'd have to post the day and times you fished. Take picture of all the fish. If they are over certain size for bonus points have individual pics of those fish with tape measure showing that.

Any thoughts on this???

well this is good, I like seing people interested in this. Its been something I have wanted for awhile. The last few years I have been shooting trap league on Tuesdays and Thursdays and was wishing I was fishing.

I love to catch and EAT fish more than anyone but with this league I would like to promote and would be in favor of C&R. You dont have to practice C&R but the points system will reflect it!

I will find sponsors for the event and offer small prize packages to the winners of the league.

It will be a 2 person team league but only 1 person will be registered so they can fish with anyone they want each week. If there are 2 guys that fish it together every week they can split the prize.

Doing it this way will allow you to fish with more than one person throughout the season.

I or an assigned assistant will be at all events. Since we will be promoting C&R the HONOR SYSTEM will be in order! This event is just for FUN and bragging rights and cheating is looked down upon!

All you will need to present the points at the end of each day is a note pad and tallies of what was caught and measurements of each released fish.. Kept fish will be counted and measured at the landing. Photos of each released "BIG" fish can be submited for extra points.

As of right now there will be no entry fee. But you must fish in at least 5 of the 7 weeks to qualify.

I like input so let me have it and by May me can get this thing off the ground!!!!

Thanks look forward to hearing from everyone!!

I'm all for the catch and release but I have some questions about it. How exactly does it reflect points? And with cell phones all having cameras it's not unrealistic to have pictures of each fish caught. Also. There should be some size limitations. A fry perch could be caught but shouldn't be worth anything. Id say there should be a slot limit. You don't get points unless the fish is in the slot. If it's over the slot it's extra points. And you should have a photo of each fish in the slot, and if over the slot have a photo where fish is measured.

And again. When is this gonna be? Sundays would be the ideal day for most. If not, how would we make this work?

I may also be interested in this. Weekdays hands down would be the only time it would work for me.

Whatever works day wise is fine and I would say try to keep it as simple as possible just to have some fun.

FUN is all I am looking for, and I think weekdays are the best. It stays light out far enough into the evening that it should work for just about anyone to make it to a lake in enough time to get a few hours of fishing in.

May 18 2010 it stayed light out untill 9 pm

May 25 2010 it stayed light out untill 9:15pm

June 8 2010 it stayed light out untill 9:30pm

June 22 2010 it stayed light out untill 9:40pm (longest it stayed lightout in 2010)

All teams would be able to start fishing anytime after 5pm on league nights on the lake we visit that week and everyone needs to be in with boats out of the water a 1/2 hour after sunset this should give everyone a few hours to fish. Remember this is just to get people out of the house and something to do on a week night and get people fishing a lake they may have never fished without the league. Im sure there will be plenty of people that would be able to make the week nights work. We are shooting for 10 boats to be entered in the league. Photos not needed but will be accepted for C&R fish. We want to keep this FUN not WORK.

I was in one out of st cloud for 5 years. it was thursday nights, along the lines of what your suggesting walleyehunter80. I could fill you in on the details of what we had going on up there for point systems and such. I think this would be a fun thing to start!

I would be interested, and know a few others that would be as well. But ONLY on a weekend as we all work second shift.

If some guys are interested in doing a weekend league why not start your own weekend league? I am sure people will be interested and nobody will feel left out. Also if you work 2nd shift have a morning league. I use to work 2nd shift fished weekday mornings all the time. Usually had the lake almost to myself with no pressure.

highlife, thats a great idea if there was a way to set up 2 different fishing times for the same lake each week it could all get incorporated into 1 league maybe?

But then Bundt2k would be able to beat me even though the score would be me (-330 points) to his (0 points) grin
