Just curious I never shot a black duck til this season--I actually shot 2 of them on different days--would you guys think that it is more of a trophy duck/rare duck to be shot???

I'm jealous. I really want to shoot a black duck. My best chance came a few years back when I was out in Maine sea duck hunting. The guide said black ducks are around there. The only time I saw any was in a small pond behind a restruant we ate in. I considered jumping them, but did not feel like spending a night in jail. I think there is a small population of them in NE Minnesota, I may have to venture up there next season.

About 5 years ago, I saw a drake and a hen Black Duck in NW Minnesota, around Elbow Lake area. Haven't seen any since.

i've shot a few this season in southwestern Virginia, and saw a few in SE Michigan when I was home for the holidays. Don't think I've ever seen one in MN, but they're around

I've taken 2, one near Wilmar and another near New Prague. Pretty sure a friend got one near Farmington this year when I wasn't with. They are relatively few of them in MN. I think a more rare duck would be a Cinnamon Teal, as I have only seen them once, and I have yet to see a Barrows Goldeneye, which apparently do come through MN occasionally.

A few years back down by Cannon Falls I saw a field with a few hundred mallards in it eating a grain spill. There was a bunch of black ducks mixed in, probably 20 or 30 was my guess. Only time I've ever seen them. Pretty unmistakable compared to a mallard though.

I usually see a couple birds a year in WI. Yet to shoot one though. But yes, uncommon in the area but not unheard of.

More birds in the Atlantic flyway. I got a mallard/black hybrid drake a couple years ago, a buddy shot one in ND a couple years ago. Beautiful birds.
