I dont post alot but here is my story over the weekend.

Took my 6 and 5 year old up for the night to stay in my perm. 5 year olds first overnighter.

One-two way radio down the hole and one ice chisel down the hole. after the ice chisel went down i shut my vex off and put it in the truck. about 3 in the morning i heard a thunk. 5 year fell out of the bottom bunk. never even woke up. Always creates good memories.

Always have my side kick with me....not a whole lot of fishing going on on the trips.....bring the dog, sled, hockey sticks, anything that can entertain him while I try to fish.......oh well, hopefully when I am old coot drooling on myself, maybe he will wheel me out there and, return the favor.

Kids love to play with fish. All the better.Slip bobbers on millacs or tipups on the ice with my three is quite the fiasco at times.Keep them in it and they will soon be outfishing you, when they do its awesome.

I remind My 16 year old all the time of the time we were out fishing when he was about 5 and I asked where my pocket knife went that I use to change lures. and he replied "Maybe it fell in the lake " needless to say that knife was never seen again . I am thinking Maybe it fell in the lake

You would probably have better luck having your grandson wheel your old azz out there. I would not want to wheel a 80 year old out there when I'm 60 or 50 for that matter. I wheeled my great-grandpa out there when he was 90. Just a thought.

got that covered... already an old geezer, if i do make it to 80 he will be a little over 40....he better be able to wheel me out there! smile

Sounds like fishing out of my portable w/ my daughter last winter who is now 4. If they make Barbie and Dora poles (openwater) that float why don't they make ice rods the same? Seriously! Your gear is severely limited when that space is used for dolls, books, snacks and her favorite stuffed animals. And a fully loaded jig box does not float nearly long enough when kicked into an 8" hole. Upside the CFO gave me the go ahead to buy a "safer" buddy heater upgrading from a heater/cooker. And watching my daughter ice her 1st Croppie...priceless....for everything else there's Mastercard....literally.

good for you Osok! while it should not matter, i think there is something even more "priceless" about a dad and daughter spending time together in this manner. i have an 8 year old goddaughter who is hardcore! when we are out alone together she is dialed in the entire time, and literally have to drag her home. when her little brother and my son comes with she is completely irritated at the boys lack of attention span grin

A couple more items down the hole under your perm and you'll have quite the piece of structure haha. I keep meaning to add a wrist strap to my ice scoop. Kids seem to lose one of those every year.

I have a older daughter now that loves to fish. When she was 11 we were out fishing late ice on a metro lake. I had her in my Otter and i was moving from holes to holes outside and catching 1 to 1 1/2 pound crappies. All of a sudden I hear this blood curdling scream and then Dad, Dad , Dad, Dad at the top of her lungs. I can running over grabbed the otter and flipped it open. There she sits with a 2# 6 ounce (weighed at a bait shop) crappie flopping on the ice and her feet down both of the holes so that the crappies would not slide back into the hole. She only caught that fish that day. But the word was spread around the neighborhood and friends that she caught a crappie alot bigger than Dad can catch. The memories are so precious.
