Boulder Lake conditions/reports?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, Having been here a couple of years, I am thinking about trying Boulder Lake soon. Does anyone have any recent info on travel conditions out there? Can I drive out there with a 4wd truck? How has fishing been? Anything special I should know, or should I just throw a dart at a map? I thank you in advance for any help!

i would stop by charlstroms for ice updates, unless someone here on the thread can give you recent info. my brother was on the south eastern part of boulder last week and said he had 14 in. of ice. if you drive out of fox resort go to the south east part of the lake. you will see some boulders stick out of the ice and fish near them in 8 to 10 ft. of water. on the "otter" side i like the north east side around the "islands" and again 8 to 10 ft of water. there are many points and bays on the north west side and i stick to the same depth there. if you go out the puplic landing stay away from the dam area and follow existing truck trails out to the lake if there are any. walley action can happen during the day but late afternoon is best. good luck.

Well, we tried Boulder today. Had 16-18 inches of ice and decent travel. Went out of the public landing by the dam cuz the resort isn't allowing trucks. Ended up fishing in 7-9 FOW, and cuaght one big perch and a 5" walleye.

what area did you fish? boulder is a good lake, and i usualy fish it a full day [live down here so i make the best of it] but walleys seem to bite in late afternoon the best up to dark. there are some nice crappies in there as well, and they are probably in deeper water. could have been just an off day, we all have them at times. good luck.

We tried Boulder a week ago from sun up til noonish and caught one big Perch as well. Our plan was to fish all day and hope to get some scattered here and there and hope for a good evening bite. We couldn't take it, too slow. We went to Fish.

For those that have been there--is it drivable with a Jeep? How much ice/snow? I have not gone there before and want to try it Friday or Saturday. Also where are the access points--I know where the Dam is and Fox Lodge. Are there any others?

Torgesom: we've had very little trouble getting around in a 4wd pickup. Where we've fished/checked, I'd say 16-18 inches of ice is about average. There's just a few inches of snow on the ice. However, we have seen some nasty slush areas near shore in a few different locations. The d a m and Silver Fox are the only accesses I know of, and Silver Fox will only allow access on foot, snowmobile, and ATV. There is a good road heading out from the d a m that will allow you access all over. Just don't head off-road towards the dam! That all being said, I've only been to one area on the lake, so ice conditions elsewhere I don't know. Proceed with some caution. People seem to be driving full-sized rigs all over the place.
