New Years in Crosby

Recommended Posts

Was up at the cabin for new years weekend with the GF. We didnt want to run around from lake to lake too much so we just sorta set up camp on the little private lake behind the cabin. Ice conditions were not that great, we only found 9-10" of ice on the little lake we were on, yet across the road there were people plowing with full-sized trucks.

Got up to the cabin late on Thursday, so we didnt fish till friday morning. The bite we found was slow, the big cold front had come through after that rain really put the damper on things. Combined with the fact that most of the weeds in this bay had died due to lack of sunlight and we had to make a couple moves. We finally set up over the mud flat in the bay in 15 feet of water and found some good success. We caught alot of our fish on 1/16th oz Lindy Slick Jigs. Brittany was using the perch color and I was using Tullibee. The trick for bites we found was to load the hook up with waxies and pound it into the bottom. You knew you had a bite when you felt that solid "thunk" on the line as opposed to slack as it hit the mud. Whenever the fish would wander off we would throw a Rattl'N flyer spoon down and bang it on the bottom and they would be back pretty quickly.

Here are a couple of the fish we got and a cool picture of the Otter as the sun was going past it. We also got a lot of bass in the 9-15" range, they are so much fun on a power noddle and 2 lb test.

madduck, which lake do you think it is? if you are right it is a small private lake, yes we get into some massive crappies out there, usually around late ice.
