i have fished bearhead the last 10 years but only in the summer. i have had excelent fishing for walley's every year. i go mainly in june. there are nice crappies in this lake. if it was me i would fish in front of the beach area were the deep hole is for crappies. check the contour map. i wish i could tell you were the walleys are at in the winter but checking out the contour map of the lake would help you. good luck.

Bearhead is one of the lakes I've never fished, but I can tell you from personal experience that most times you can find walleyes now in roughly the same locations you do in early/mid summer.

i believe the park is open year around. the rangers told me of snowmobiles and wheelers running around there in the winter. steve knows what he is talking about as far as walley location. i would fish the larger south basin of the lake. as your entering the south basin through the "narrows" take a left [east] and if you look at a countour of the lake you will see a shallow flat comming from shore all along that side. fish around the 10 ft. level. this flat from shore has green kelp weeds and some pike are in there as well. but the 10ft depth should be right at the break and the walley's should be good from 3pm til dark. there are many other spots but this one is easy to get to and to find. the deepest spot is strait out from the beach in the center. there should be crappies there suspended all day through the night. good luck.

Yes, the park is open in winter. Reinhard, that flat/break sounds like a perfect spot for pike tip-ups until 3, then switching to walleyes from 3 on. smile

You will still need a State Park sticker to fish in Bear Head in the winter.

Thanks everyone for the tips, as soon as it warms up a bit I think I may give it a try, should be fun seeing it in the winter anyways.
