You may want to wait until the rain passes later this week. Most lakes around here are one big mess of frozen ruts on top of maybe a foot of ice. Where there are not frozen ruts, there is most likely slush to deal with.

And only hydro fishing! Good way to keep people out of your spots! laugh J/K Thanks for the report! wink

Good one Leech, you busted me! Actually, I have not been near Clearwater for several weeks now, have been riding the sled instead of fishing, and I based the report on what I have seen on Maple lake, Buffalo and several smaller local lakes. Personally, fighting several inches of slush is not worth it for me and I'll be content to catch fish here closer to home until it freezes up a bit. Have at it out there until then!

Hydro you are right on. I checked the ice in front of my cabin on Clearwater Monday night and it was either deep ruts or slush. Disappointing but I'm waiting and hoping the rain followed by a good cold snap will firm things up.

We drove the truck out to get the fish house in the rain on Thursday, ice was the best I have seen it, probably not the best quality ice, but at least its not 12 inches of ice under 1 foot of snow\slush anymore.

Hopefully the ice is good out there. Planning on spending sometime out there this weekend. I use a 4-wheeler pulling a portable so I whould be just fine. Now I just need my son to tell me where he has been catching them.
