Does ten dollars a day actually cover the expenses associated with opening the roads??? It seems like it would take a lot of fisherman to cover the gas cost!

With the tough conditions this winter and the resulting slow bite because people can not move around to find fish I doubt that anybody running a road on URL will breakeven this year. I have not run a road since the "80's" and have no intention of ever doing it again. There are good years and bad years but nobody gets rich at it. $10 doesn't open many feet of road. Can you imagine how much it would cost Government to build an ice fishing road? confusedgrin

You guys should get together and increase the cost of day passes on the roads on bad years. I am guessing people would still pay and based on the fact that you have increased expenses with increased amounts of snow, I doubt many people would complain about it. Not many lakes have roads that are always plowed and ready for fisherman like Red does. It is a very appealing part of red lake and I would think most are willing to pay what it takes to keep the roads open.

I haven't talked to Doc yet today but I'm guessing we will be up Thursday about noon. I will let you know if it's something different.

Not very many miles, more like gallons to the mile. grin My F-350 gas with the 460 will burn about 25 gallons an hour. At night it is strange looking as the exhaust manifolds glow bright red and light up everything 10 feet around with a red glow. We also have to pay Fed and State gas tax on the fuel we burn up on the lake but MNDOT will not come out there to help us. grin

Buddy and I kept track once opening the roads back up after a 4 inch snowfall with wind. We burned up over 800 gallons in 2 days to get the roads cleared again.

That absolutely boggles my mind. It takes a lot of road passes to cover that cost....
