Wheel House Axle

BertBuddy

Question

I have been reading pretty much every post on the forums here about how to make a wheel house with a torsion axle, and that people are getting them custom made, but I haven't had much luck finding where I can buy one of these axles. I have found many places that sell premade frames, but haven't found anywhere that sells a torsion axle with a 14"+ arm. Any ideas?

I would give Pioneer Rim & Wheel a call in Minneapolis. I have gotten axles, springs, wheels, etc, etc. from them in the past and they have always had what I was looking for. Not sure if I can post their number but here it is 612-331-1311.

Dont know what part of the state you are in but if any where around St. Cloud Midway iron has everything you could need for building a fishouse frame.

You pretty much have to custom make your own 14 inch arm on those torsion axles I've searched all over for them and found nothing stock. I have got torsion axles from redneck trail supply and quality trailer supply they usssaly have everything when it comes to trailer parts

Do you think it would be better to go with springs over torsion? Just because a springed axles are really easy to change if they start sagging, where as a torsion axle when it starts to lose its springyness you pretty much have to replace the axle, and from what I am seeing it would be pretty tough to replace. I also thought of doing something like this where it would be a torsion half axle on a rotating axle. See image below. The only problem is how wide the wheel well would have to be

Here is what the 3500lb axle from L&L Fabrication looks like installed

Would it be possible to get a closer look at where your hydraulics attach? And are those two long silver bars sticking up with the hole in them like a mechanical lock?

Yes, the bars are the mechanical lock. I have a pic of where the cylinders attach to the frame but not of where they attach to the axle. send me your email and i'll send more pics

Thanks for all the pictures. I live only 2 hours from L&L so I will probably give them a call today. I am also curious about the torsion axles, has anyone ever had to have one replaced? Because I am assuming that is not an easy option in these style of wheel houses. I keep leaning towards leaf springs, but the torsion axle just seems so much better, but if something goes wrong it seems like you are screwed.
