Yesterday I was out, went to Solon Springs to lake St Croix. I drilled one hole about 30 yds from the truck/camper. The report I had of 10-12" of ice was WRONG! There was about 7" and water was rushing up thru the hole about 2" high, I threw the auger in the truck and haulled azz off that lake! It was good black solid ice under the snow, but not enough for truck and camper.

Went to Gordon FLowage and found 9-10" of good black ice. Drilled holes under the camper, no water rushing up thru the holes. Had a little rise and fall as trucks went by my location, but was happy to say it was solid with no sagging from the weight of the snow and truck/camper.

Hate to say this, but sure would be nice to get a couple below zero nights this week.

I may venture out to the St louis Bay this weekend.

Be careful on the Bay there are some cracks in the ice 4' wide and miles long. They may have just enough frozen ice on them now to make them look safe but they are not. They are big enough to swallow a person, wheeler tires or sled ski. Be careful. I recomend walking but its quite a haul to pull the house through all that snow these days.
