The crappie bite is on and I was out this weekend with Lowell. Then out tonight solo to stay on the pattern, and it is holding. The bite is from 4:00-7:30pm and we were fishing in 13-16FOW.

Lowell and I start on Christmas afternoon and when we got to our location, there was some slushy areas. We had to move around to find some slush free area and we did find an area that we decided was good enough. So we punched a few holes to see if there was fish and there they were. The sunfish and crappies were a foot off the bottom, so we setup the house and started to fish.

We caught 25 crappies and 12 sunfish on the night using some different presentations. I started with the ratso white glow and Lowell used 2-3 different colored tails. I moved to the hexi-fly green glow, and with both did OK. The white glow ratso still produced the most.

The crappies can in all sizes from 8-11" and the sunfish were all in the 7-8" range. It was a good night on the ice and glad to get out with Lowell.

Tonight, I was out for a hour in the same area and they were there. Landed 13 crappies and 3 sunfish on the ratso. The crappies were not as active but I had to work them up off the bottom to bite. The biggest crappie tonight was 11" and I lost a bigger one in the hole. Oh well, get him next time.

Nice report and great pics. Thanks for sharing, that's the kind of reports that make this website worth checking out. Are you able to drive around on the ice? What would you say the thickness is?

You can drive on the lakes, but there is about 10" of snow. Some slush in areas, but if you follow the plowed roads, you will be fine. Oh,there is about 12-15" of ice and more on others. Good luck if you get out!
