It depends on your skill level. There was a time I personally would shoot out to 800 yards with no hesitation. But with the amount of shooting I do today I wouldn't shoot past 150 yards. You are the only one that can determine what you are comfortable with. IMHO the .243 will cleanly take a yote out to 500 yards.

Smoked a fox yesterday at 150 yards and a yote at 400+ with my AR .223. I'd say 500 yards should be a chip shot with 55 gr. .243. A guy we hunt with shoots .55 gr .243 and i think he said it has around 20" of drop at 500 yards.

Holy Moly!! Man, things have really changed and improved since I used to do a lot of shooting! Wow! You guys regularly banging foxes and coyotes at 500-600-800 yards! Now maybe if I had my old bullpup back with a 20X on it I could whack a coyote at 800 but man, them little bitty 55 gr. bullets would be so loopy out that far....Jeeeze. My hats off to you guys. You are really good. At something.

Ha Ha ha. Thanks for brightening my day.

I have taken fox and yotes at 500 yards and farther with my 6mm wich is basically the same I load 70 grain bthp for my 6mm and my buddies 243 they work well at long rang and hold up to the wind better then the lighter options.

I would also like to see in an autal pretator hunting situation fox consistanly being knocked out at over 500 yards. Mabey everyone is this good but I have yet to ever witness these common shots in person.
