I had planned on watching the Vikes and probably fall in and out of sleep this afternoon. That was goofed by the dome collapsing and the game canceled.

So I figured I'd fish close to home. 9" of ice. 4 inches of that was good clear ice with the remainder frozen slush. I could feel the Nils auger change when it hit the transition and seemed like 1" of slush in between the layers.

3-6" of snow on top. Travel is good for ATV or Sleds. Note: I had 4" of clear ice 3 weeks ago before the snows but still had to open water in spots. So it has not made any ice, instead the slush froze on top.

Fishing was good, managed a meal of nice 8-10.5" gills. Left the flasher at home and used the Camera instead.

Not to bad for not having my nap. smile

I was at a buddies cabin yesterday and we went out. 6 to 8 inches of ice everywhere. We walked out, but saw several snowmobiles cross the lake. Very slow fishing, but we did catch two nice crappies. His neighbor came over and had fished another lake in the area and did really well on sunnies. He told us he found a Jason Mitchell rod/reel and a tip-up on the lake he was fishing. He found the rod still in a rod holder. He said he left a note on the rod holder. I told him I'd post it here. Name the lake and I'll pass on the guy's phone number. Someone must have had a few to many brews.

On the subject of walkable ice I thought I would mention that I saw what looked to be a minivan drive across the narrows on Fish lake this afternoon 12-15-2010.

For the record I'm not suggesting it's time to start automobile travel on the lake as I feel very safe using my 4-wheeler at this point.

I guess someone has to be first but I'm going to wait just a bit longer.

Sleds and wheelers should be good to go on most lakes around here. Island lake I'm not sure about.

The ice might be 10-12" but that top layer is frozen slush. Cars this weekend no way.

Hey Tom I think I saw you leave hi-banks last evening around the same time as me. Tim came out and you guys talked for a bit. If I would've known, I would have said hi. Ya that van was a little gutsy to say the least.

This past tuesday evening I fished pike lake. 10 in of good ice, 2 tiny walleyes to show. There was a car parked out on the lake while I was there.

Yesterday morning I got up and went out on rice. Fished tip ups with shiners. One flag and zero fish for hours of work/fishing. Was surprised that I didn't see more hammer handles. Ice was 10-12 in.

Last night I went out in the narrows on fish lake. Fished the last hour of light and came up with a few crappies and perch. Ice was about 9 in.

That's all I got. I start my Christmas break on the 21st so I will be back up and fishing regularly then.

yea, the fishing on rice sure has gone to carp. Too many people don't realize how much it hurts the population taking all those pike out of there. I have had the same results out there this year.

fishinfey8,

Sorry that I was not able to say hello to you. If you see my rig parked in the lot again please stop and say hello. We were out on Fish lake again yesterday. I was going to head out again today but I've decided to take it easy around the house before heading back to work tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a great weekend fishing and most of all I hope everyone is able to stay safe.
