Playoff Expansion Possible For 2012

Bud Selig is considering expanding playoffs (probably to 8 teams in each league) for th 2012 season. There's also small interest in shortening the season back to 154 games...which I know for a fact won't happen because of loss of revenue for the teams. They're also talking about expanding the divisional series to best of 7 instead of best of 5 (good luck twins). The baseball season is aleady about 3 weeks too long...if all of this goes as planned, we'll be flipping channels back and fourth between the cowboys game and the world series on thanksgiving shocked

yeah i dont get why they think they need to expand the baseball season put 2 more games on the football season its just to much now, if they shorten the season then do 8 teams i would maybe be for that, but the season is already to long

World Series in Minnesota in November (like that will happen) is not a great idea. I believe they want to start the season earlier so they don't have to play as long into the fall.

If they wouldn't set the dates for every playoff game, that may help. Look at all the wasted time right now because neither series went a full 7 games. We could be half way done with the series by now if the dates were not set in stone. Tick tock....

A March 25th home game here would be alot of fun, too. This years 70's in mid March was a once in every 25-35 year occurance. Just last year it was still cold in mid May!!

Bud Selig needs to go, NO owner of ANY team should be allowed to be commisioner. One of his first genius moves was to take his own Brewers and move them to the NL, THEN making interleague play, which gave the NL an extra team. Why in the world do that? If he had left them in the AL, the numbers would be equal and every team would participate in interleague instead of that one odd game between 2 NL teams during interleague. Someone stitched that rug on too tight

PLEASE don't make the season longer than it already is! Most people have a problem with baseball the way it is now with how slow the game is. 162 games plus a ton more playoff games is just ridiculous. 16 teams make it in the NHL playoffs and those are too long (and hockey is my #1 sport).

I agreee, the baseball season should be over in October. Keep the phrase Mr. October for players that flourish in the playoffs. Too many weather issues when you get into November.

As far as other sports, nba should be done by June and nhl should be done before weather starts becoming too warm for ice. Playoffs for all sports are too long because of the tv schedule having too much time off. Playoffs for mlb, nhl, nba should be best of 5 and only the conference championships and finals should be best of 7. I like the nfl to be done by end of January.

At least at the start of thr season scheduleing could get you around opening up in northern stadiums. This is not an option for play off games, unless they start playing them in neutral warm weather cities like the NFL does.

Personally, I'd like to see the season shortened by about three week. Of coarse with all the revenue involved that will NEVER happen.

Baseball is on its way out, decisions made based on money and not best interests of the game. Cut the season to 130 games, get it over before college football starts and dont increase playoffs. Who would people rather watch, Big time college football or baseball? Its a no brainer. Te two weeks beore college fotball start are dead spotswise. If the World Series was on then they would get great ratings.

please don't have 8 playoff teams. can't they see what the nba and nhl playoffs are like with 8 teams per league? watered down and takes way too long.

if anything they could maybe try to shorten the regular season back to 154 and schedule 2 double headers per team.

Don, what team in any sport would want to wait 2-3 weeks before their first home game? 2-3 weeks in baseball is the equivalent to 5-6 NFL games.

Remember in 2001 the World Series overlapped rifle deer hunting season because of 9/11. It really wasn't too bad, and that season in my opinion was the second best WS behind the 91 Series.

It's all about the revenue. Again. They have to at least be able to empty the stadium so they can get that revenue for the secong game. Sad as that sounds, it's the engine that drives the train.

Good Idea but the double headers will never fly with the players and more importantly the owners would never agree to it!

I would be against any play-off expansion.

the only way this is possible if they have selected world series, warm climate site. similar to the nfl. not for it either.

Baseball fans, especially season ticket holders would not travel for up to 7 games.

i would hate it if the mlb expanded the postseason... allowing another wildcard team in the playoffs would make it so there isn't really a huge advantage for winning a division... if they do anything to extend the postseason, hopefully they just made the division series a best of 7 instead of 5. that is the only logical move i can see bud selig making

If ANY change is going to be made in the playoffs, it should be to nix the teams from the same division can't play each other in the divisional series! It's a stupid rule, and was put in for the sole purpose of having the yankees and red sox play each other in the ALCS!

Record low ratings for the World Series. Game 5 only had 3 mil. more viewers than the monday night football game. No surprise.

The only points the Packers scored were 1) off a turnover (interception), and 2) in garbage time when the Vikings went into prevent defense mode.  Outside of that, they put up a whopping 3 points.  This from a GB team that has scored at least 30 points in each of their last 5 games.   The theory on prevent defense is that once you get a big lead in the 4th quarter, you back off and make the opponent beat you by methodically moving the ball and the sticks, one at a time.  It eats up clock and there just isn't enough time left to come back doing it.  You don't want to get beat deep so you give them easy yardage.  Its like slowly bleeding out but you survive the game without dying.  I don't particularly care for it, but every single team in the NFL does it.  We've seen it  a lot this season too when the Vikings get a double digit lead, and then back off, allowing the other team to gain ground and make it close.

Lake update:  It rained quite a bit on overnight Friday into Saturday. There is virtually no snow on the lake now, except a scant amount in the shadows along the shorelines. On Saturday there were good pools of water on top of the ice. My daughter, niece, and nephew had a blast riding snowmobiles around in all of that water/slush. However, most of that liquid water firmed up yesterday and now the lake is pure ice again.   If you've got scratchers and studs on your sled, you will be fine. If not, you better walk or ride an ATV/UTV out to your ice fishing holes.    Ask Mother Nature to send a bunch of snow ASAP.

Agreed.  If Darnold could unload a lot faster off the snap he would be unstoppable.  I could see how frustrated Jefferson was.

I think they could get the Lions.  Not as confident with the Chefs.  I’d love to see it though.   Darnold did well for sure!  But he was off a bit and the receivers made some great catches.  Then a few plays that were close to turnovers.  It was a good thing GB took too long to find their game.   Im not hatin’, just sayin’.

Just like the Twins in 87 and 91.  One game at a time.  I think with KOC they have a good shot. Besides it's a rebuild year according to the experts at the beginning of the year.

It was a win but can they get by the Lion's and Chief's if the defense doesn't show up?  What more can your QB do but his best stat game of the season?

      i dont see a TV......weres da commercial??????🤣🙃

Glad they hung on to it with leaving 13 points on the field.
