What with the move and all the last couple of weeks I haven't been to Island but for a few hours last week. Has it turned yet?

Mark as of last Mon it hadnt. You could see the thermocline in some deeper spots starting to get mushy. Could be happening as we speak.

I will be up there tomorrow I think. If I go I will report back.

Steve,

I'll either be in a Red Lund or a Black Lund. You know where. I'm hoping to be on the water from about 10:00 till dark.

I was out this morning till about 1:00 pm. Don't expect much.......dinkville. Somehow we have to get the weather man to get rid of this high pressure and bright sunshine. The same conditions have been killing the bite for the last 3 weeks (at least for me).

DD I did ok up there. I got 8 eyes between 11" and about 18". All Lindy rigging Golden shiners. They didnt want anything else. The crappies on the St. Louis are loving the smaller ones as well. Too bad they are $5.50 a doz. At least Chalstroms and Fishermans Corner give you a good count on them.

Was out shorefishing tonight. Caught two, missed two. All after dark in shallow using BIG (7-9in) heavy pike/sucker minnows. Both were respectable, one went just shy of 20, and the other was 18. One of the ones missed I had hooked, and it felt decent. Try up really shallow(1-3fow) on the tops of sunken rockpiles or wind-blown shorelines at night using abnormally large minnows. Just let it sit on bottom and bounce it once every 3,4 mins. Wait for your line to start swimming away. Use big catfishing hooks.I didn't start getting bit until around 7:30pm. On the clear days fish in the moonlight, when it's cloudy, fish during the day.

A HUGE beaver(which I thought was a bear or wolverine or something) scared the c rap out of me while I was walking a shoreline right at dark. It must have been 100lbs no joke...I laughed after I figured out what was going on.

hahahaha i can totally picture this. good story... sounds like some nice fish too, especially for island. its good to hear that island is producing some fish, and is very close to turning over. could be a few great weeks of fishing out there before the ice comes. the more i think about it, trolling leadcore sounds like a great idea to at least give a try out there... could cover some serious ground and try to seek out the more active fish. fishinfey-i grabbed a bunch of plainer boards from gregs boat, so we could give that a try if we want.

52 degrees I'd say it's turned. Walleyes were active, steady bite all day 15 to 18 inchers boat control in the wind being the big factor. I love fall fishin.

Bahhhh! I'm going to miss the bite. I had to go to a birthday party on Sunday and I'm stuck at work all week including next Saturday & Sunday do to one of my co-workers Mexican vacation.

No, thank you for letting me hop in the boat with ya! Had a great time, even though that wind was a whippin. We'll have to do a hardwater crappie trip this winter sometime.

I dont think anyone was fishing Island with the terrible winds and rain we have been having.

Last time me and fishinfey were out it was pretty good.

how are the weeds out there? have the majority of them died off?

is the water level still about 4-5 feet low like it has been all summer?

is water clarity pretty normal?

Water level still down. Clarity normal. Weeds dead but can still find some laying down in spots.

The reason why I asked about the turnover thing was I always thought it was only natural lakes that turned over.

Maybe over time, Island has become a natural lake??

I always thought large deep bodies of water had a form of turnover. Even though Island is a res it fishes like a lake in a lot of areas. I could be wrong. Anybody know for sure either way?

Gunflint and I got out for a chilly morning of fishing. We managed a few walleyes and managed to lose a few nice hook ups. My hi light of the day was a 14 3/4" Crappie. I had to go to work at 2pm but Mark headed back out. Maybe he will report how he did later.

not an expert but had a cabin on a resv. system in central minnesota and that thing certainly turned in the spring and fall, even in the shallow bays next to the main channel current.

Island has a turnover peroid. Turnover depends if the lake has a thermocline or not. Usually the deeper, cooler lakes have them. You will see it on the graph when you turn up the sensitivity.
