i just got one for free from my father in law and was trying to get info from some of you that have one is it a decent gun and how far is the knockdown range on deer

If you are talking about a Ruger .44 Rem Mag carbine, they are great brush guns. They are light, swing fast and have plenty of punch inside 100 yards. Beyond that, you might want to look at something a little different.

+1 these are fun little guns. 5 shoots one after another in no time. One of my buddys has one and one day he shot at a deer and it sounded like he just shot one or two times. When he came back to the shack I found out he shot all 5 rounds! They are very nice short range guns!

I have a lever action Marlin .44 and it has taken alot of deer over the years for me. Longest shot I made with it was 70 yards. Great short range gun and like others have said fun to shoot.
