'Eyes and Grouse

Just thought I would kick in my 2 cents worth for those of you that fish up here, I've really seen quite a few grouse this year (maybe the drumming counts don't correspond to the birds). I can't think of anything better than hitting the lake for some fishing in the morning and then hitting some of the good grouse cover around here. If you check this weekend's weather forecast it looks great...so come on up!

Tons of grouse this year, this cooler weather has the deer running around also.

We saw about 20 rufffed grouse yesterday between Ely and the North Shore.

And I would say that the leaves, on the brush, in the woods are dropping a little sooner than normal. Not to say that they are all down but I would say that visibility is better than a typical grouse opener.

Yep been seeing lots of grouse dead on the roads so there must be alot.

I'd say we are 1-2 weeks ahead of normal as far as colors and water temps, etc.

Jim, I'd say a solid week for sure, and Randy's right on about the leaves and brush. It's the same up here around Ely.

Seems like everything is 2-3 weeks sooner than normal. Was talking with a friend of mine from the DNR, he was telling me that the water column in the lakes they have been sampling, temperature is the same from top to bottom which if things stay on schedule being 2-3 weeks earlier than normal, we should be ice fishing right around Halloween!!!!!
