Dog is eating stones

I have a 2 1/2 year old Gordon Setter / Lab cross, the other day I was working on some machinery in the yard and I see she has a rock in her mouth about the size of a marble or so, after rattling it around in her mouth, she swallowed it!

Since then, I've seen her do it a couple other times, any idea why she would do something like this?

I've had a few dogs over the years but never one that would eat a rock !!?

My 15-week-old GWP seems to eat anything and everything he can get in his mouth. His favorites are our landscaping rocks, sand, woodchips and unripe green tomatoes. He also has a real hankerin' for washed up snail shells on the beach, which makes water training a pain in the A$$. I'm praying he gets out of the phase...but so far I haven't seen any negative health impacts from his oral fixation.

...and unripe green tomatoes.

I think tomatoes are a big no-no for dogs. Not sure if it's the plant or the fruit, but I would be very careful.

I dont know if tomatoes are a no no but my fourteen year old lab has been eating tomatoes for years out of the garden. Not too mention all the pickles, I have to beat her to the garden to get some for myself.

Unripe green tomatoes should be okay. When you catch your pup eating rocks, tell him/her no. Just keep doing it and you pup will learn.

My year old lab would just play with them but I never saw her swallow one. I've even found a few in her kennel that she brought in without anyone's knowledge.

We just spent $2500 last weekend getting two rocks out my 1 1/2 year old yellow lab who has never eaten anything beside his food before. His chocolate brother has eaten and passed them before and eats a lot of socks but never the yellow. They were big. He was pretty sick for two days and I'm glad we got him in when we did. We have a bunch of rocks to pick up now in the backyard.
