Cuddyer is easily above average as far as 1st basemen go. Plenty of non Sid type of reporters have mentioned this. All you have to do is watch him play to understand it. The guys just a stud all around athlete definitely the 2nd best athlete on the team and the best golfer far and away.

And by far the best magician!! Seriously, he does very well at first or in the OF, was a horrible third basemen, even I will admit that.

I do have to ask Sled, whats the count on the Young for MVP votes? whistle

Did you guys like Richard Bremers call today vs. the Mariners?

Was pretty cool actually. 3-0 count with Cuddyer at bat. Before the 4th pitch Richard made a call that he gets the green light and hits a homer. Sure enough next pitch the ball hits the upper deck.

Yeah that was a pretty sweet call.... until the play in the outfield by an outfielder who shall remain nameless let the Mariners tie the game up. crazy

Put an Olerud helmet on him and stick him out at 1b Left Field . I've seen enough of Cuddys Young's defense.

Delmon is no doubt struggling offensively and his defense is rather offensive as well. We need his july bat back and soon. Cuddy is definitely magical out there. I watched him twice yesterday wave his magic wand and voila just like that scoring opportunities disappeared!

I listen to ESPN radio because the Fan doesn't come in worth a hoot here in Detroit Lakes. Even though I now have a job, I will have to cover a bunch of bills from unemployment before I can hook up television again.

And, in spite of Sid's opinion, I still have that "man-crush" on Cuddy. Glad we have him.

I meant currently and yeah that was maybe a bit of a stretch.

Anyway it looks like Morneau is out for the year.

How about Adam Dunn at 1st base is he available?

Morneau is on the 60 day disabled list and will be able to come off on Wednesday I think. Will be interesting to see if he is cleared to play.

  • 3 weeks later...

Saw this on the Strib, no surprise but confirmation:

Quote:
In his weekly appearance on 1500 ESPN (AM 1500) Friday, manager Ron Gardenhire spoke briefly about first baseman Justin Morneau, who has been sidelined since July 7 with a concussion.

When asked for an update, Gardenhire said, "I don't see how it can possibly happen for him," regarding a September or October return.

Gardenhire added, "I hope I'm wrong."

I had a couple concussions 20+ years ago, and can still feel the effects today, bad headaches from fast movement such as quick stops, or bumpy roads, I get dizzy easy, and a short attention span, among other things.

My wife would just call this a common male trait. wink

Good thing it was a blow to the noggin and not beer doing this to ya. grin

Why would you say that? If I'm going to have those symptoms one way or the other, I'd rather get them via a slow process of me enjoying beer over the years than a quick, painful blow to the skull cave.

Posted on the Star Trib this afternoon.

Morneau could be ready to work out with Twins on Thursday

Posted by Joe Christensen

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Justin Morneau has had about four good days in a row back home, Manager Ron Gardenhire said, and if this keeps up, the plan is for him to work out with the Twins on Thursday at Target Field, taking BP, fielding grounders, etc.

Naturally, this makes you wonder if there's a chance Morneau could be ready for the first round of the playoffs, but Gardenhire said we're getting ahead of ourselves with those questions. The Twins are taking this one step at a time.

Sounds like there is a slim chance at him returning. Although how effective will he be is a huge question.

We're not going anywhere with our pitchers giving up 10 runs a game. As for Morneau, not much time left for him to get locked in at the plate. Sure would be nice to have him though.

If he is symptom free by the end of the week and his workouts go well, I'd want him on the post season roster even if it meant he may not do a thing but pinch hit the last game of the series.... I'd rather have a "chance" at seeing Morneau as a pinch hitter, than KNOWING I have Tolbert or Repko or Revere....

I agree with you coach but they just reported this on ESPN and they said the best chance of seeing Morneau this year would be if the Twins make it to the World Series.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
