Hi everyone,

I am curious to what everyone thinks when it comes to walleye lakes around here. Feel free to chime in!

My top five list in no particular order would be:

Belle

Collinwood

Washington

Jennie

Swan(Silver Lake)

Best chance at a 28 inch plus fish would be Jennie or Swan

What are your thoughts?

Collenwood = Cokato

Washington = Dassel

Jennie, Belle, Swan, Marion are about the closest. Jennie gets weeds early, Washington gets over Fished, and Bell is hard to find good eaters, but is fun lake to Catch and Release.

I thought Swan by Silver Lake froze out the past couple years??

It has an aerator in it. It hasnt froze out.

I would guess your lakes are not in the Hutch area Ryan. But, they are good ones.

We went to Swan lake for opener, buddy caught a 22"+ walleye.

That was all we caught.

Lots of snags along the bottom too.

Were there a lot of trees along the south shore that were blown in or something?

I brought the family out to Collinwood on Sunday and it was so dirty (floating green algae)! I couldnt even graph fish. We trolled around for about an hour and moved on.

I have only fished it in early season, was not impressed with the mid summer conditions! Way to much farm run off!

Is Swan and Big Swan the same? I manually drilled two holes on Big Swan this past winter when I drove by. Very clear water. Didn't catch a thing, but folks there reported an eye here and there with some crappies. Interested in putting the boat on it some time.

These are different lakes.

Big Swan is north of Dassel and Swan is by Silver Lake.

Both of these are usually very dirty as well.

Star has to be in the top5 I've got lots of

5 to 6 pounder out of there the last 2 years

Years ago I did very well with eyes at Collinwood. Never had good luck in the winter time though. I heard it was very quiet all summer this year.

Hmm since I only fish Wallies during winter I would say

Jennie

Marion (Richard Sized Eyes)

Swan

Preston

Ripley

I stopped fishing Collinwood a couple years ago. It use to be a fair eye lake but the eye population is low from what I have seen.

What was good many years ago was the great crappie fishing right of the east side by the county park. Many very nice slab crappies were caught there.

Erie? I always though that was a bass and gator lake, Never seen or caught a walleye out of there.

I know this might be hard to believe, but I caught my largest walleye to date out of good old Lake Erie in May of 1995-10.5 lbs. and 30.5". Wanda, as my daughter named her, hangs proudly in our family room. My brother caught a 6.5 pounder that morning, also. I don't think either or us has caught a walter out of that lake since then.

I don't think the DNR has stocked any 'eyes in Erie since about 1992-check the DNR Lakefinder Stocking reports to make sure. Somehow, there still must be some in there, since I hear about one being caught out of there every once in awhile.

Stay safe, all you early ice adventurers!!!!
