Cuddyer on a tear!

Twins made the playoffs for 2 reasons last year:

Cabreras play- offensively and defensively

and

Cuddyers play- offensively and his very good play at 1st base. There were no hotter hitters in the AL the second half of last season. Just get over it already, Sled. Jeepers.

Cuddy will be gone next year...he's outplaying his stay here in Minnesota. You can only sign so many big contracts and our younger guys in the minors will get their chance.

Signing Morneau is more important and this will free up some of that $$$.

I have been a Cuddy basher for a long time, but his playing of 2nd has tempered that alot for the time being. Not many RF can do that. a true team player, and that goes a long way in my book. playing 2b is not rocket science, but probably the hardest pos to play with calls and all, (cutoff throws etc.) Plus the dude plays darn good at 1b. Cuddy scores one in my book, a player almost impossible to replace.

And don't forget he came up from the minors as a 3rd baseman too.

I really do not see him leaving any time soon.

Happy Birthday Tom!

The guy is hitting .275 with 6 HRs and has the 3rd most RBI on the team. I'm not sure how much more you could want from him.

delmon has 1 less RBI and higher BA in 60 less atbats

for the best player ever, cuddyer is playing under his potential

No one said he is the best player ever. He is just the best option the Twins have at right field at the moment. Actually he would be the best option at right field for about half the teams in the league.

Are you saying that you would rather see Delmon play right field? Who would play left field then?

How is .272 higher than .275?

Dave this all goes back to last year where Sled wanted Cuddyer cut because he was a terrible ball player. Long story short Cuddyer had a 30 HR 90 RBI season along with carrying us to the playoffs on his back.

Cuddyer finished 22nd in the AL MVP voting out of 600 players in the league.

Big Dave,

Glad you caught that ERROR on BA, also. Young has been trailing Cuddy all year, so I just had to look to see if Delmon had caught up.....NOPE.

Cuddy is LEADING Young in games,at bats,runs,hits,triples,homeruns,rbi's,on-base-%, AND batting average, and positions played. Cuddy and Span are the only Twin's to play in 52 games....everybody else is less. Since Cuddy CAN and is willing to switch positions for the team good, he usually get more playing time. This ISN'T to say Young is not a valuable member of the team....he balances the batting order out against all these lefties teams throw at us....GLAD to see him doing better. It is a team game after all.

I will bet noone in MLB goes 0-2 in the count more than Delmon. He swings at every first pitch he sees.

I bet Punto or Harris would, if they had more ABs.

Easy on Delmon, he's having a good year and seems to be growing up as well.

actually one of my biggest complaints of Harris is that he doesnt swing enough. He takes too many pitches, falls behind, and strikes out looking all the time. Of course immediately followed by whining and crying to ump.

I would much rather have him strike out swinging, atleast I know he tried to hit it, rather than just standing there.

Couldn't agree more. Wasn't it sad when Puto was hurt how we wished he'd come back just so we wouldn't have to see so much of Harris?

getting back to cuddy, I think everyone would like to see his averages with runners on the bag be much higher. He seems to thrive with the bases empty and believe his averages are much lower with runners on. I think he'd be much better batting around 7th in the order rather than where he typically bats but the problem is the team has so few options for right handed batters that can bat in that 4 - 6 spots so he's probably the best guy to put there. Delmon has a much higher average with runners on base but who knows how he'd do batting if he and cuddy switched spots in the line up.

Young isn't asked to bunt, alot of bunting= alot of 0-2 counts.

Young is having a good year, but he needs to learn patience. Puckett used to rest the bat on his shoulders and take the first pitch, everytime. Young should try that, it worked for Kirby

About time he stepped up. Morneau had ANOTHER GREAT night.....somebody has to help him out, with Cuddy out a few games. Hard to believe how bad, some of the guys ,are hitting this year, so far......under 230? ouch. Even Joe is having a down year, for him. If you look at individual stats, you wouldn't think we would be leading the division.

OMG

delmon has only 6 less rbis than justin morneau

good for 2nd on the team

Young should be batting 5th

His D still stinks, but his bat is starting to live up to his potential. But Cuddyer still hit 32 out last year, and I don't think Delmon can do it, but he has shown alot of promise.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
