Sucker streams around Duluth?

Recommended Posts

Last year we caught some suckers below the dam up at fish lake. Are there any other good streams?

the otter river between Boulder and Island is also a good spot many good spots to push them into narrow areas for easy netting.

Behind the paper plant in west duluth and the bays behind the munger trail all have a lot of suckers and carp.

Miller Creek at the foot of 24th Ave. West. Access between the 24 hour Vet Clinic and the DTA it is a road easement. I think it is still way too early, but I'll start checking it when I go by and post when there are fish in there. Good place to take kids for some snagging. They love to have those redhorses thrash around on the end of the line.

The good ol' Lester takes a good run of suckers. Just about the time the steelhead are done the suckers are right behind them. And don't forget the river, but you might have to fight the pesty sand carp off to get to the suckers.

Caught 5 suckers last night on the nemadji river. Didn't think we were going to catch anything, so it was a suprise. Used the old dead stick trick with a soaking crawler and heavy sinker. Fished from 5:30-dark. Felt real good to get some open water fish reeled in on the long stick. Getting closer, I think this early season is going to be great!

Suckers on a dead stick on the Nemadji! Hats off to ya. Don't know if you are only targeting suckers or are just hoping for any legal specie this time of year. But if you are fishing the Nemadji, I woulnd't be surprised if you found a cat or two on that same exact method. I've taken a few cats out of the Nemadji draggin worms for walleyes, just not in March.

There are good creeks everywhere in the Duluth area, as well as Wisconsin. I haven't shot a sucker or carp with a bow in like 5 years. But I do miss it! I am unaware of any shooters in the area, but I'll keep my eyes open. Good fishing

One thing that you should be aware of is whether or not the river is a designated trout stream as many of the streams in Duluth are. If it is you will need a trout stamp and you cannot spear or bow fish in them... Last year I got some suckers out of the otter river tho! Good luck!

If it's a designated trout stream I don't believe you are allowed to fish in it for any species until the trout season opens as well.

How about the Golf Course creek that comes out/into Pike Lake near Duluth?

Jarrid, don't overlook your back yard, both the Amnicon and the Middle take a run early in the year.

They are starting to run thick and heavy now that water temps are triggering. Have been wet in the brule the last few days but will now hit the local streams in rural superior areas. They are already having contest in areas south of Danbury like Webster. Nemadji has been producing. I would never fish suckers in a designated trout stream....

I like to shoot them with my Bow but the season don't start till may 1st for Bows and spearing. They will all be done and gone by the first.

Could not cross the amnicon without stepping on a sucker. Thousands of them. Fished at the amnicon state park (my back yard) below the waterfalls. Catching a few suckers was fun, but it was more awesome watching a couple of muskies try and launch themselves up the falls. Not big muskies, but still cool. Didn't know they could jump with so much power. Simple hook, sinker, and worm did the trick. Probably going to do nemadji tomorrow.
