im not going to name the lake but the notherns and eyes are biting in 12 feet of water on tip ups. i will not name the lake because 4 years ago i was catching and realeasing numbers of 12 to 13 inch craps and i was taking friends out there for the fun of catching and releasing they told no one. but my father told one of his friends and two days later on my way out to the lake i stoped at the bait shop in waterville the bait store owner was telling everyone that came in to go to lake x and fish next to a red fish house( that fish house was mine 1 of only two on the whole lake.) needless to say a week later you couldent catch a crap out there. to this day there are still very few crappies there. I know for a fact they fished the lake out of crappies in that week. i saw hundreds on the ice night after night.
im all for giving out info but i will never name the lake again. im sorry if this seems like a tease but if you like to fish you enjoy the hunt for the fish just like catching them.

if you could go out and catch your limt every time you go would you? or would you just catch them and let them go. if we all did the CPR or C$R we would have a better chance of doing the catching numbers of fish but just maybe the same fish as last year.

we do need to keep some fish there are plenty that get hooked deep or have scares, missing an eye./ or just lived out life as in a 11 to 13 pound eye.
im in favor of lowering the limts even more 1 nothern 3 eyes 5 sunnies 5 craps and 10 perch if you cant get a meal out of that theres somthing wrong with you. in my opinion.

Why did u even bother telling us that?

Posted

because if you know me you will get ahold of me and ask where or ill take you thats why. there are plenty of people i trust with my info not to go there and fish it out. (but i dont trust all) also some of the people on this board know what lake im talking about. if it buggs you dont read it or forget it. simple

Just for everybody's Information on numerous occasions troutman72 has asked (on this forum) specific lakes, colors of lures, when and exactly where on lakes to fish. I don't want to start a war here. It seems to me alot of people like to ask questions but then they turn around and post I've caught alot of fish here but not telling what lake. It seems like a waist of time to me. Sorry just my opinion.

the lake is at 44.16 N and 93.32W on your atlas if you work that hard at it you will be rewarded. If you know how to run a tip up?

oh yea saddie i dont make it a habit to ask what lure and i sure dont ask exactly where on the lake. and if you have ever read my post i try to give the lake im fishing on such as madison or tetonka, just so happens i have a trailer on lake x and its not that big. also if youve read my prior post that just gave the lake away. i dont think anyone will fish the northerns out of this lake but the eyes are another story .

oh yea if you cant find it on a map my email is [email protected] if you go out there you will need a 4x4

I have e-mailed guys on this board and most were very willing to help me out through the privacy of an e-mail.I'm sure I can speak for many others here when I say,"I would do and have done the same thing".Mike

I guess I don't know how you guys can jump on somebody for for not sharing enough info. The info troutman provided can be applied to many lakes. If you don't put the time in to do your own research and find your own spots on a "lake x" I have little simpathy.

I'm not saying that asking for more info is wrong, but trashing them when they want to keep the details of their hard work to themselves is selfish. Give the guy a break and go fishing, hard to catch fish when you're arguing about it smile.gif

i'll second that whitey. Hey, good for you guys you got a nice spot. Didn't your mothers teach you that it's not nice to boast....

Does this mean this website is in jepordy of going off the air? Why does FM exist, if we can't share fishing info. Lets be friendly about fishing information. If the lakes are going to get fished out because of the info here, count me out of this site!

LOL, Good post troutman72. Its good to hear that some people are catching some decent fish.
BTW its kinda funny that you said this with only 8 (when u posted 1st) days left in the open season. grin.gif
I dont really care where it is b/c im sure I would never make it there anyway, even if there were 40 days left in the season. Its just you got to realize that a ton of people read this site every day and get info off of it and dont say anything. Trust me word travels fast. But then there are the generous ones that will share and give some hints. And really im sure if you emailed people on here they would tell ya a lot.
Overall im just glad your catching some nice fish.

Check out the Red Lake forum and you'll see what to much info can do to a good spot. Hot bite for a month and word got out and it was stone cold in 2 days.

there still hitting out there last time i was out i had a 8 and a 7 pound northern. and 0ne eye around 3 pounds. the day befor i missed about ten flags and got one 10 pound northern(it had a 2 to 3 pound carp in its gut.
this lake has a history of winter kills. i hope it makes it to spring. if it dose it will be an excelent year for summer fishing.

oh one hint get your bait as close to the bottom as possible. if you catch a northern dont throw it back thers to many already. on any other lake(besides rays) i would be throwing these fish back.

Running on empty at dark on a sled is definitely stress-inducing. Been there, done that. Glad that you made it out.

Eagle swoops are always a hoot to watch.   The snow is mostly gone on the lake. Ice melt made things pretty wet but the ice is obviously still very thick.

On the South Shore...  The big question:  "How is the ice up at Lake of the Woods?"  That is for each individual resort or outfitter who operates an ice road or trail to answer, but overall, ice conditions are still very good and ice fishing is going strong!  As always, stay on the marked ice  roads and trails for safety.     Being up on the Canadian border, the colder temps Lake of the Woods enjoys vs much of the region combined with three feet of ice makes a big difference.  Fish houses are allowed unattended overnight through March 31st and it sounds like a good number of resorts will be fishing through the month, but ultimately, Mother Nature will determine that.     Regarding the fishing, overall, very good reports for walleyes, saugers and perch.  There is a strong population of smaller walleyes and saugers in the lake which bodes well for the future, but in the meantime, anglers are sorting through them to catch their keepers.   The one-two punch of jigging and deadsticking remains the most effective technique. Jigging spoons with rattles tipped with a minnow head or a lipless crankbait on the jigging line is the ticket.  On the deadstick, a live minnow a foot off the bottom on a plain red hook or medium sized ice fishing jig is catching a lot of fish.   Using electronics is super helpful.  Many nice walleyes are swimming through suspended, keep an eye out.   Anglers tip-up fishing for pike have had a great week and it should continue to get even better.  Suckers, frozen alewife and smelt are working well. Putting baits 1 foot under the ice or right off bottom seems to be effective this week.  Most common depths, 9 - 15 feet. On the Rainy River...  The Rain River is still frozen with no signs of open water yet.  Every year can be different, but on average, the Rainy River will start opening up around the third week of March.  The first boat ramp suitable for larger boats is Nelson Park in Birchdale.  We will keep you posted.    As of March 1st, walleyes and saugers are catch and release only on Four Mile Bay and the Rainy River.     Make plans now for sturgeon season.  Once the open water appears, the fish are super active.  Here are the seasons...   -Catch and Release Season: May 8th – May 15th and October 1 – April 23rd. -Harvest Season: April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – September 30. -Closed Season: May 16th – June 30th.  Up at the Northwest Angle...  Fishing remains very good up at the Angle and the ice is in good shape as well.  As on the south end, resorts monitor ice roads and trails daily and there are still some great ice fishing opportunities available.     Walleyes, saugers, perch, and pike are showing up in good numbers.  Those targeting crappies are reporting good numbers of fish.  Work through a NW Angle resort for ice fishing opportunities on this part of the lake. The walleye and sauger season is open through April 14th. Pike fishing never closes, and perch and crappie remain open year-round as well. Whether booking a day house rental, sleeper fish house, or resort stay, there is still plenty of time to plan a late-season ice fishing adventure.

Looks like a shallow lake with some potential.  Keepable crappies, decent bluegills and some nice perch according to the last survey (2015). Susan Lake   With a max depth of 10 feet, I’d want to know a little more about it before I’d start drilling holes.  Could be a nice little adventure though.

Jeff and I fished Saturday and half day Sunday, targeting whitefish, ciscos, crappies, and perch.  The bite was tough for us.  We ecked out a few, but nothing special.  Highlight of the weekend was the sled ride into Wolf Lake and having an eagle swoop in and eat a rock bass we had on the ice.  All in all, not a bad way to waste time.
